System Tray

Recommended Posts

Up until recently, the MB icon was loaded in the system tray with every boot-up of Win10x64. But just recently it has stopped putting the icon there. The option to have this load in the ST is grayed out and can't be turned on. Any idea why this is happening, and what I can do about it?

I already downloaded the MB repair tool. After the repair my system had to reboot. Once back in Windows, the icon was back in the systray. And also another application I was having trouble with was also fixed. LOL. I'll try to attach the log file. But thanks for the reply, and willingness to help.

This happening on 2 of my desktops as wel, both clean WIn 10 installs.  Its hit and miss whether or not it shows up in Windows 10.  I have reset system tray icons through regedit as shown below.  Malwarebytes still disappears from WIn 10 system tray icon configurations.  Isnt even listed in win 10 settings

Back up the Registry by creating a restore point.
Press the Windows key, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to and select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify.
Delete both IconStreams and PastIconStream in the right pane.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select Start Task Manager.
Select the Processes tab, choose explorer.exe, and click End Process.
Choose the Applications tab, click New Task, enter explorer.exe in the text box, and press Enter.

Do you have fast startup enabled?

I have startup options -> Start Malwarebytes at Windows Startup = ON

I have tried delaying protection at startup with no success.

I have enabled self-protection but with early start is set to off.

Is this what you are referring to?

I turned on Malwarebytes "Enable self-protection module early start"

Completely shut down and fresh boot and it is appearing up early in the system tray.  I am reluctant to say its fixed but I will keep an eye on it tomorrow

If it does not keep working, I think your Trend Micro could be affecting it. But lets wait and see.

Could be but I run the same combo TM and MB on 2 other boxes.  Win 2012 R2 and Windows 7.  Doesnt have an issue on either.  This seems confined to Win 10.  With early start it is being loaded first and so far so good.

It may very well be that there are differences in the drivers and other components used by Trend on Windows 10, as it is different architecturally, especially when it comes to AVs, from Windows 7 and Server 2012 R2.  In fact, there's an entirely new class of startup for AVs that they may install as an option (which Malwarebytes uses as well on Windows 10) called Early Launch Anti-Malware (or ELAM for short); though it is also available as an option in 2012, however I don't think most vendors have implemented it outside of Windows 8 and Windows 10 for the most part as that's where MS touted the feature most.  It may be such a difference that's causing the startup issue on that particular system, especially since something as simple and variable as timing of startups can have an impact on things if there is a conflict where two components are fighting over the same resource during boot or the Windows scheduler has issues loading multiple resource intensive items simultaneously during boot.
