Maxed out CPU usage

Recommended Posts

When my PC starts, Malwarebytes will max out a single cpu core, but not start. Clicking on the tray icon will cause it to hang, and I have to close Malwarebytes from the task manager. Restarting Malwarebytes produces the same result. The problem used to affect a few other 32bit programs on my computer (which I have now uninstalled), for now it seems to affect specifically Malwarebytes, AdwKiller, and mbar. Malwarebytes Support Tool is able to run, but Repair does not help. If it is any help. I've successfully ran these programs while in safe mode (mbar and mbam discovered no rootkit when I performed the scans in safe mode), however booting back to normal brings the problem back as well.

I've attached an image and the Support Tool grab results.

Hope there's a solution.

Warm regards,

wingwangwong

Hi @wingwangwong,

Thanks for troubleshooting file.

You have tablet software (Huion Tablet v14.7.60.339) installed, which is known to cause application hangs, crashes and other issues with applications using a QT-based user interface. We've seen this issue specifically occur with the Malwarebytes user interface and tablet drivers from Wacom, Huion and Veikk.

Please try (temporarily) uninstalling your tablet software, rebooting and check if this has any impact on the issue.

It's a long shot, but which version of Windows 10 do you currently have? For instance, are you running 1803, 1809, or something older?

His logs clearly show which OS the OP is using...

Hi @LiquidTension,

That seems to have done the trick! Does this mean I will not be able to use my tablet driver and Malwarebytes at the same time for the foreseeable future?

@Amaroq_Starwind, thanks for trying, but uninstalling my tablet software worked! Just out of curiosity, how would a different build of Windows 10 affect Malwarebytes in this manner?

AFAIK there is are no different effects on the version of Windows 10 as per the software requirements on the main page.

Software requirements
Windows 10 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8 (32/64-bit)
Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 or later, 32/64-bit)*
Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later, 32-bit only)*
Active Internet connection

No argument there, Malwarebytes is usually pretty quick at finding such bugs and then release updates to fix them, that is as M$ makes changes to the OS. Most bugs do not affect everyone, it all depends on the users configuration and what other software they may have installed.

If you didn't have the latest version of the tablet driver installed, you might want to see if the issue is still present with the latest. Alternatively, you could try installing an older version and see what impact that has (if you already had the latest installed).

Unfortunately, if the issue still occurs, there's not much else that can be done at this time. We're looking into some potential changes that we could make (to how we compile our QT library) that should mitigate the problem, but there's no set time frame currently.
