Ransomware Protection Lock Whole System

Malwarebytes 3.2.2 - Ransomware Protection Lock Whole System

Win7 64bit
After update to Malwarebytes 3.2.2 in 14/Oct (without changing other system setting), I fail to download every file ( EVEN THE WINDOWS UPDATE ALSO FAIL), or fail to save the existing document when I have changed the content. It just shows “file is too large for destination file system” or “don't have permission to save in this location”.

I have spent whole day to test all software, and FINALLY I find that TURNING OFF RANSOMWARE PROTECTION would make everything go smoothly.
This problem does not exist for the previous version, please help to solve the problem urgently, ransomware protection is necessary for me, thanks.

Hello and Welcome!

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Thank You,

Firefox

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

STEP 01

  • If you're already running Malwarebytes 3 then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes 3 installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the Export Summary button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find, and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know on your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan.
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Copy its content into your next reply.

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

@AdvancedSetup Attached MB version 3.2.2.2029 scan file for your reference,

I just downgrade to the version of 3.2.1.2008, it could run the Ransomware Protection smoothly.

But once update to 3.2.2 Version, running Ransomware Protection would refuse to save anything and keep showing “file is too large for destination file system” or “don't have permission to save in this location”.

Since these 2 version's threat scan could not find any malicious items, I wonder if the 3.2.2 version has bug on the  Ransomware Protection, are there any similar cases like me?

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thanks

Great that was able to correct quite a few things. Let me have you run the following. Please make sure that Bitdefender is fully disabled while running the scan.

Please visit this web page and read the ComboFix User's Guide:

  • Once you've read the article and are ready to use the program you can download it directly from the link below.
  • Important! - Please make sure you save combofix to your desktop and do not run it from your browser
  • Direct download link for: ComboFix.exe
  • Please make sure you disable your security applications before running ComboFix.
  • Once Combofix has completed it will produce and open a log file.  Please be patient as it can take some time to load.
  • Please attach that log file to your next reply.
  • If needed the file can be located here:  C:\combofix.txt
  • NOTE: If you receive the message "illegal operation has been attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion", just reboot the computer.

Cheers

Ron

Okay, so it looks like you're missing some files from the installation. The log shows that your antivirus is currently disabled (and out of date) but was it fully disabled when you installed Malwarebytes?

Something stopped, or blocked the creation of some folders and files it looks like.

Please click on START and copy/paste the following into the search line and press the Enter key to run it.

You can use CTRL-C to copy and CTRL-V on the keyboard to paste.

cmd.exe /c dir /a /s "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\" > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\MyMalwarebytesFiles.txt"

This should create a file on your desktop named: MyMalwarebytesFiles.txt

Please attach that file to your next reply.

Thanks

Ron

Let me have you enable our Event Log Data so we can try to track down why this anti-ransomware module is not loading.

Event Log Data

This setting provides additional information regarding program actions which are beyond typical needs of the user. Should you encounter a technical issue with Malwarebytes, our Customer Success engineers may request that you enable this setting to provide additional troubleshooting information. Once troubleshooting is complete, please remember to turn this setting off to prevent unnecessary disk usage. The default setting is Off

Once that is enabled, then go to the Protection tab and try a couple times to turn on the Ransomeware Protection module.  Then run the MB-Check again so that we can collect new logs while the debugging is on.

You can turn the Event Log Data back off once you've posted back a new log.

Thank you

Ron
