Stinger7018 Posted April 23, 2017 ID:1119440 Share Posted April 23, 2017 Why is Malwarebytes now listed as my Antivirus instead of Defender? How do I switch back?
John A Posted April 23, 2017 ID:1119441 Share Posted April 23, 2017 In the interim, open Malwarebytes > Settings > Application, then set Malwarebytes to "Never register with Windows Action Center" - then restart the computer. Defender will activate. The latest version of Malwarebytes allegedly fixes this issue.
nikhils Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119469 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Hello @Stinger7018 Just to add to John A's point, you should be able to use both Malwarebytes and Windows Defender side by side without any issues. Thank you
Staticguy Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119504 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Is MBAM 3.0 compatible with Avast (Free) latest version? My last encounter with MBAM issue was with when I was using Trend Micro 2017. Should I set some restriction for MBAM or Avast (Free) so they can work together? I would add these to Avast or any other AV and add your AV folders to the Malwarebytes exclusions. nikhils Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119644 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Hello @Staticguy The best way to do it would be: 1. Open up Avast and click on Settings. 2. Under settings click on the Exclusions arrow. 3. Click on the add button and add the Malwarebytes folders and also drivers mentioned by @Porthos in the previous post. This should add MB exclusions for Avast.
Staticguy Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119645 Share Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) @Nikhil Setlur: Thanks for the information. In windows security center it says MBAM is turned on so as Avast and in the bottom it says "Running more than one antivirus app at the same time can cause your device to run slowly. In MBAM settings should i click on "never register Malwarebytes in the windows action center"? Edited April 24, 2017 by Staticguy Correction
nikhils Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119647 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Hello @Staticguy Malwarebytes can co-exist with multiple AV's without causing any dramatic impact on performance. Its best to leave the settings at default : "Let Malwarebytes apply the best Windows Action Center based on your system ". Thank you,
Staticguy Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119648 Share Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) @Nikhils Setlur: Right now my MBAM isn't displaying any message(s) relating to turning off/disabling real time for my avast free and for my Avast. Back before when I had trend micro 2017, MBAM was displaying message that to turn off/disable real time for MBAM or Trend Micro. I will keep observing to see what happens after my MBAM trail version expires tomorrow? Right now I don't think I have to add any files/folders to the exclusion list onto my Avast for MBAM. nikhils Posted April 24, 2017 ID:1119650 Share Posted April 24, 2017 @Staticguy Ideally you should not run into any issues . If you do and see the notification to turn off AVAST, you can always change Malwarebytes to not register with Windows Action Center. Your trial version will always be free and never expire . Staticguy Posted April 25, 2017 ID:1119659 Share Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) Just now I bought a license and my MBAM Premium (Trial) got converted into MBAM (Premium) Licensed. I didn't get any message(s) relating to deactivating/uninstalling avast or disabling real time protection that I used to get when I had Trend Micro. I didn't even have to set any exclusions. Avast and MBAM (Premium) works great together and it's Magic Edited April 25, 2017 by Staticguy
Staticguy Posted April 25, 2017 ID:1119664 Share Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) By the way, forgot to mention this What does CU stands for? Edited April 25, 2017 by Staticguy
nikhils Posted April 25, 2017 ID:1119672 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Hello @Staticguy Glad to hear both the products are working well for you. CU stands for Component Update. These are periodic fixes and improvements which we push out automatically. Best,
Staticguy Posted April 25, 2017 ID:1119674 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Oh thanks. I thought it stands for Cumulative Update. After successfully buying a license I went to the MBAM settings>Application tab> I clicked on install Application Update. After that it was downloading and installing some updates. What are these updates?
nikhils Posted April 25, 2017 ID:1119856 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Hello @Staticguy The updates you are referring to are the Application updates. You can consider them as the largest of the updates as they include the component updates as well as updates/modifications to the UI. The latest application update is 3.0.6 which you are on currently. Thank you

Staticguy Posted May 16, 2017 ID:1125320 Share Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) Can someone from MalwareBytes team show me what files, registry, and programs exclusions need to be set (for MalwareBytes 3.0 latest version) on Trend Micro Maximum Security 2017? I have changed my antivirus from Avast to Trend Micro Maximum Security 2017. Thanks. One more thing, if I deactivate my licensed MBAM 3.0 and if I want the get the premium version again, can I use the same key? Yes, You can use the same key.but keep in mind, If your license is subscription it will still expire 1yr after it is first activated. Deactivating it does NOT pause the timer.
