MBAM Scanning Twice

Recommended Posts

I have MBAM scheduled to scan once a day at 11:00 AM but it is scanning just before 11:00 AM and again just after 11:00 AM.  I have already done a clean install hoping that would solve the issue but no.

This is happening to two Win10 x64 machines, both with clean reinstalls of MBAM.

Gees, it's not that hard.

two (2) scans for 9/1/2016.

NOTE : Only one is an active "Scan" log, ..... You are reading them both as Active Scan Logs ...........Gees, it's not that hard. (sorry for repeating).

Please read the Blue links below......... they are from User Guide ONLINE;

Scan Logs (from the FAQ area) ....

Scan results are available in Scan Logs which are retained by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (see History Settings for further details), or click the Save Results link at the bottom right corner of the screen to save results to your clipboard (for use with other programs), to a text file, or to an XML file. You can also view Scan Logs from within the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware user interface. See >> Application Logs for details on viewing logs.

A scan can take up to 20 minutes (Windows 10 made sure of that), also note the dates on the sample I left, as the program is constantly being updated and upgraded.

A staff member can review your logs for any P2P or Skype that may also cause this.

Thank you for putting up with me :)

Hi, @Krusty:

Until @Firefox returns....

From a quick look at your checkresults.txt file, it looks as if you have a setting enabled in the scheduler to "check for updates before scanning".

Scheduler Queue:
================

tasks:
    b9cc049f-10f0-4f13-be1d-5c04f7b0c3a0:
      parameters:
        AutoDelete:                                            false
        CheckForUpdatesBeforeScanStart:                        true

That will cause your scheduled scan to run at randomized times, +/- 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

You may also have some "make-up" settings in the scheduler that is causing the double scans. Or, that could be the result of having reinstalled the program without using the removal tool/rebooting, leaving leftover, overlapping scheduler or other settings.

>>If you want a scheduled scan to run at the exact time it is scheduled, without randomization, then you need to disable the "check for updates before scanning" setting.

>>If you do NOT want MBAM to "make-up" missed scans at apparently random or inconvenient times, then you need to disable the "recover if missed by" settings.

So, there are a number of ways to resolve this:

  1. Perform a proper, CLEAN reinstall using the mbam-clean removal tool.  That will clear out overlapping, leftover, wonky and otherwise messed up settings and will restore you to the default, recommended settings. Instructions are here (very important to reboot when prompted by the removal tool, and a good idea to reboot again after the reinstall): MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x; OR
  2. Go into Settings > Automated Scheduling and do the following:
    1. Verify that you have ONLY 1 scheduled scan task
    2. Double-click on that scheduled scan task to open it
    3. UN-check the option to "check for updates before scanning" and UN-check the "Recover if missed by" settings
    4. Click the "OK" button
    5. It probably wouldn't hurt to reboot the computer
  3. OR, you could just DELETE the existing scheduled scan task and create a new one, from scratch, using the settings I suggested in #2.

Please post back and let us know if this resolves your issue,
