MalwareBytes newest V. 2.1.8.1057 freezes during scan

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'd like to request help in being able to successfully complete a threat scan. I haven't been able to finish one in the past few versions. I'll come back to check on it and it seems to be close to the end but it freezes everything and I have to do a hard reboot. In the meantime I've used SUPERAntiSpyware with no issues. I attached the FRST and Addition txt files as attachments.

Thanks,

Sam

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll try to help your with your issue.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • We're primarily oriented on malware removal here, so you must know that some issues just cannot be solved and you must be prepared for this. Some tools we use here will remove your browser search history, so backup your important links and all the files whose loss is unacceptable.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a More reply options button, that gives you Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Always execute my instructions in given order. If for some reason you cannot completely follow one instruction, inform me about that.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything not covered in my instructions happens, please stop and inform me!

:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware with no problems. It took about half an hour at the most. Next I tried MalwareBytes and after 3.5 hours it looked like it was still scanning so I moved the mouse around to see what would happen. After a few seconds the computer froze like before and I had to do a hard reboot. I'm now noticing that my Antivirus software is taking much longer to do it's scan, even in quick mode.

There are some issues between MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit and Kaspersky Total Security 2016. As I personally experienced there were also some issues between MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and Kaspersky in total.

Can you temporary uninstall Kaspersky and then try to scan?

Also, I would like to see fresh FRST reports:

FRST.gif Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please re-run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool to give me a fresh look at your system.

  • Right-click on FRST.gif icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.

(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).

  • Make sure that Addition option is checked.
  • Press Scan button and wait.
  • The tool will produce two logfiles on your desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.
Please upload them into your next reply.

I uninstalled everything and tried another free antivirus and it seemed to work just fine. I re-installed Kaspersky Pure 3.0, an older version that worked fine before and it too is going very slow for scans. I've been going back and forth with Kaspersky support. I'm guessing it's Kaspersky but Malwarebytes too somehow because I tried them both separately with nothing else installed. I'm going to try and get you that Farbar reports as soon as I can but Kaspersky wants me to follow their procedure in the meantime so they don't get confused with other changes I make with my system. I was wondering is Farbar just a reporting tool or does it scan for malware?
