  2. Hey CCMUA2009, To my knowledge, not all anti-virus programs monitor the HOSTS file. I don't know of any actually that do. AVG, Antivir (free) both do not to my knowledge. Windows Defender does monitor changes to the HOSTS file as well as WinPatrol. Regards, Keith

  4. @Firefox, You are exactly right... There were some attempts to get it to work in a PE (preinstalled environment), but I think the project hit a wall and they were unsuccessful. With the amount of new malware that is released on a daily basis and how advanced it has become, I'm glad they are focusing on detection and removal as opposed to new functionality, bells, and whistles.   5. Hello hanakuin and welcome to Malwarebytes! To my knowledge, there is not a switch that allows you to do this, HOWEVER, that does not mean it's unavailable.   6. Hello TheDoc and welcome to Malwarebytes! If you already have a basic understanding of batch files, all you would really need to look into is the schtasks command. Just type schtasks /? in a CMD Prompt window to view the help on it. If you have any questions, just post back. I can post some links if you need to start from scratch as well. Regards, swagger
  7. My laptop with Windows 7 completes a scan in about 2 and a half minutes now.. But it's pretty bare-bones as well.

  11. Hello again handyman, Never seen that error before, does this happen in IE as well? Just for clarification, MBAM does not scan for tracing cookies and things of that nature; it goes for the nastier, more difficult to find and remove malware. A program like SUPERAnti-Spyware is good for tracing cookies, etc. I checked the first 3 of IPs you posted and all 3 are either malicious IPs or on subnet ranges where either exploits exist or malware is being distributed. According to hpHosts, which is a custom HOSTS file put together by MysteryFCM of Malwarebytes, those IPs are malicious and I would assume they would also be blocked by Malwarebytes' IP Protection as well.   12. Hello Reginald Van Gleason IV, Yes, this is normal. Your version of Malwarebytes was probably updated from 1.43 to 1.44 and needed to restart to finish the installation. Sometimes it asks, sometimes it doesn't in my experience. Regards, swagger
  13. Hello handyman and welcome to Malwarebytes, Can you provide a little more information? When you say, "the links don't work when clicking on them in google", what do you mean exactly? Does your browser not open the links or are you redirected to other websites? Can you post some of the IPs you mentioned that Malwarebytes' is blocking? If you're on XP, the logs can typically be found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\logs\ Regards, Keith

  16. Hello GeorgeSosos, I am by no means an expert and I do not have any exact figures, but the malware industry is a multi-billion dollar business. It generates a lot of money on both the good and evil side. Avira Antivir is a great product, but there isn't a single anti-virus program out there that is 100% foolproof. If you aren't careful, your computer is bound to become infected at one point or another. I would stick with Antivir and just practice safer surfing Regards, swagger

Hello supertrip and welcome to Malwarebytes, What version of Malwarebytes are you using and can you include a developer's log in your next reply? ::Developer Scan:: Click on the Start menu and select Run... Click the Browse... button and navigate to the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder (typically C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\) Select mbam.exe and at the end of the file path (after quotes), type in /developer Click OK Malwarebytes should open up with a randomly generated string of numbers in the top left of the window. Run a Quick Scan Include the resulting log in your next reply Regards, swagger

I ask this because only the paid version has the features you've mentioned such as real-time protection (taskbar icon on the right) and scheduler for updates.   20. Hey chubalz, According to your last post, you would want to use the startipdisabled value then... Open Regedit and navigate to this key: Then right click in the right hand window and select New -> DWORD Value -- name this startipdisabled. Lastly, double click on startipdisabled and change the value data to 1. That should be all. More information can be found here. Regards, swagger
