  2. You can go with chrome extensions of MBAM browser guard, Emsisoft browser security etc. for added protection, or even free adguard adblocker extension. But if you use Chrome, it has it's own sandboxing feature to block malicious links and your AV too will take care of it..
  3. Don't know about premium versions, but free version AV's are with product policy explicitly stating about tracking browsing data and selling it for revenue (and which user has to pay indirectly for the 'free' product usage.).. But, one cannot start embedding keyloggers and all such stuff, to defeat the very purpose of the product.. 4. Linux For All Shines on LXDE Desktop "https://www.linuxinsider.com/story/Linux-For-All-Shines-on-LXDE-Desktop-86396.html" Linux For All very well could be a unifying Linux distribution that provides a common computing platform. LFA is a distro developed by Sweden-based software engineer Arne Exton of Exton Linux, the same developer who distributes ExTix Linux. The Swedish Linux Society hosts 16 Exton distributions. LFA runs the LXDE4 desktop environment, which is very user-friendly and lightweight, and designed for low resource demands. Lots of Support A major advantage for adopting this particular distro is better hardware support for Nvidia graphics. You can boot into Nvidia's proprietary graphics driver 440.31 by electing boot alternative 4 (fail-safe). Next, open up a terminal and run sudo nvidia-xconfig. Then log out. Depending on your hardware's configuration, you can skip running that command. The Nvidia card will be used automatically. You can check that by starting Nvidia X Server Settings under Menu (LXDE) >> Preferences. If you cannot reach X/LXDE after running nvidia-xconfig, your video card is not supported. Another advantage is the inclusion of Refracta Snapshot tools. Refracta makes it easy to create your own installable Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS Live DVD once you have installed LFA to the hard drive. Also preinstalled is TeamViewer, to control computers from LFA or vice-versa. If you use only one computer, these tools may have little impact on your computing experience. However, if you maintain computers at home and at the office, these tools can make duplicating your installations with identical configurations a delight. LXDE (Lightweight X-11 Desktop Environment) is a free desktop environment with comparatively low resource requirements. This makes it especially suitable for use on older or resource-constrained personal computers such as netbooks or System on a Chip computers. Bottom Line Linux For All is a no-nonsense Linux operating system that delivers performance and reliability. It has a well-stocked inventory of useful tools and productivity apps that do not contribute to software bloat. If you want a lightweight desktop that works out of the box without animations that drain computing resources and strain the eyes, LFA is a great platform that runs on nearly any computer with minimum RAM, regardless of age. 7. Airport Facial Recognition System Fooled "https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/airport-facial-recognition-system/" Facial recognition technology used to secure airports and process payments has been fooled by photographs and 3D masks. According to Fortune, multiple facial recognition systems in several countries were tricked in a series of tests carried out by San Diego artificial intelligence company Kneron. Researchers at Kneron were able to access a self-boarding terminal at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport by tricking the sensor with a photo on a phone screen. Using the same technique, the researchers managed to gain access to pay fares and board trains at several railway stations in China. In stores in Asia, where use of facial recognition technology is widespread, the Kneron team were able to trick payment systems AliPay and WeChat into allowing purchases to be made. All it took to assume someone's identity and make payments as them, was the donning of a high-quality 3D mask. The elaborate masks were obtained from expert mask-makers in Japan and are not commonly available, but the experiment still raises concerns over the reliability of this increasingly popular technology in preventing fraud. Kneron's CEO Albert Liu said that solutions are available to fix the weaknesses in facial recognition technology that his company's tests were able to exploit, but companies are unwilling to pay for them. Ministry of Justice: WhatsApp, Gmail & Co. should have to issue passwords "https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Justizministerium-WhatsApp-Gmail-Co-sollen-Passwoerter-herausgeben-muessen-4615602.html" Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht's draft for a law against "hate crime" goes far beyond tightening up the NetzDG. Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht is following in the footsteps of her colleague in the internal department, Horst Seehofer (CSU), in surveillance questions. With her draft bill for a law "to combat right-wing extremism and hate crime" presented on Friday, the SPD politician not only wants to significantly tighten the already controversial Network Enforcement Act (NetzDG). She also plans a duty for WhatsApp, Gmail, Facebook, Tinder & Co. to release sensitive village data, such as passwords or IP addresses, to any village police officer and numerous other security authorities on request, sometimes without a judge's decision. "Anyone who provides telecommunications services on a business basis, participates in them or gives them access to use them," should be able to use the relevant inventory and usage data "to fulfill information obligations" vis-à-vis the authorized agencies, according to the heise online draft, which the journalist has since published Hendrik Wieduwilt has published . The Ministry of Justice emphasized that the information to be released was to be "transmitted immediately and in full".

  14. tkx for info. But with meltdown which is said to affect Qualcomm CPU's , spectre on ARM CPU's, similar SGX exploit attack on these CPU's is not known. Qualcomm's QSEE similar to SGX was patched for vulnerability to exploit private keys sometime back, so plundervolt type attack on QSEE is not known.. "https://fortanix.com/intel-sgx/" Hackers can recover private keys from Qualcomm chips "https://www.fudzilla.com/news/mobile/48570-hackers-can-recover-private-keys-from-qualcomm-chips"
  15. But, this is not only about PC, but about mobile chips too are affected. So, nothing is known about which mobile is affected??
  16. but still a vulnerability that is prone to exploit, so firmware upgrades would be necessary..
  17. New Plundervolt attack impacts Intel CPUs Intel desktop, server, and mobile CPUs are impacted. Intel has released firmware patches today. "https://www.zdnet.com/article/new-plundervolt-attack-impacts-intel-cpus/" Academics from three universities across Europe have disclosed today a new attack that impacts the integrity of data stored inside Intel SGX, a highly-secured area of Intel CPUs. The attack, which researchers have named Plundervolt, exploits the interface through which an operating system can control an Intel processor's voltage and frequency -- the same interface that allows gamers to overclock their CPUs. Academics say they discovered that by tinkering with the amount of voltage and frequency a CPU receives, they can alter bits inside SGX to cause errors that can be exploited at a later point after the data has left the security of the SGX enclave. They say Plundervolt can be used to recover encryption keys or introduce bugs in previously secure software. Intel desktop, server, and mobile CPUs are impacted. A full list of vulnerable CPUs is available at the bottom of this article. Intel has also released microcode (CPU firmware) and BIOS updates today that address the Plundervolt attack. Nonetheless, Plundervolt is a serious issue. The research team said it notified Intel in June, and the vendor has worked tirelessly to prepare patches. Microcode and BIOS updates were released today as part of security advisory INTEL-SA-00289. These updates give administrators a new BIOS option to disable the volting and frequency control interface on their systems, if they don't use it, or if they perceive Plundervolt (CVE-2019-11157) to be a real risk. According to Intel, the following CPU series are vulnerable to Plundervolt attacks: Intel® 6th, 7th, 8 th, 9th & 10th generation CoreTM processors Intel® Xeon® Processor E3 v5 & v6 Intel® Xeon® Processor E-2100 & E-2200 families Plundervolt is nothing that end-users should worry about. It's an attack vector that is of little interest for malware authors since it's hard to automate at scale. It is, however, an attack vector that could be weaponized in targeted attacks, against specially selected targets. If Plundervolt is a serious threat depends on each user's threat matrix. A research paper describing the Plundervolt attack can be downloaded from this website. The paper is entitled "Plundervolt: Software-based Fault Injection Attacks against Intel SGX."
