so i was checking my email and there was an email from facebook it says someone tried to add me to facebook so i went to facebook and signed in( didnt click the link) and there wasnt a friend invite there so i was kinda confused on why the email was there so i went and got the headers for the email and iv removed my email but is this email ligit and if so any one got an idea why i got the email yet there is no friend invite on my facebook account even tho there is one in my email address

Hi, I'm glad you did not click on any links in the e-mail and please don't. You can look up the senders IP address to see where in the world it is coming from. You can see it in the second line, it is clearly marked.

Also there are two more IP addresses on the 18th line, make sure you copy these without any quotation marks or parameter enclosures, meaning "just the numbers and dots between", example: 00.000.00.0.

As you already know, don't click on any of the addresses, even the one to unsubscribe or anything else.

yeah iv tried looking em up im not sure im doing it right because some of the ip addresses arnt even showing up as proper ips or even nkown or who owns em so im not sure what im doing wrong

hence why i asked here

and even if a link is ligit i dont click links in my inbox i go to the site manually

Is your ex-Boyfriend abusing you on Facebook? and you are pretty much not sure whether its him or not? If yes then this post is of real use for you. here i will show you how you can Find the IP address of your friend using Facebook’s Notification email header. ever noticed that whenever any friend of yours comments on your photo or sends you message, you also get notified via email from facebook and this email will help us to identify or trace your friend. Guys If you’re going to send messages from a fake Facebook account to fool or abuse your friends, there is 100% chances that you will get caught and even Proxies will not work here. Because Facebook is using client side scripts, as scripts execute on the users computer they have the ability to gather the IP directly from the TCP/IP stack before encoding it and passing it on as a payload using POST or GET.

-Update: This Method No more Works.Please follow the alternative method to find ip below.

This method involves Sending a Unique Link To your friend. and when your friend clicks on the link, you will be able to see his IP. Follow the Steps;

Step 1: Goto My IP TEST Page, you will see 3 fields:

Link for person – link that you need to message your friend

Redirect URL(optional) – your friend will be Redirect to the Specified URL after he clicks the Link.

Link for you – This link is for you to check if your friend has clicked your link

Step 2: enter the Redirect URL (eg: www.facebook.com)

Step 3: Copy the link from ‘Link for person’ and send it to your friend via message or wall post

Step 4: Copy and ave the URL from ‘Link for you’ and do check it frequently. You will get your friends IP if he or she clicks on your link.

Remember we have already seen how you can find IP address of any facebook user while on Chat and for that the user had to be online. so In this post i have come up with much simple method to get IP of your friend. There are lot of rumors that Facebook keeps the IPs of the users in their system. and i too believed the same until today, i found out this new method for looking out IP of Facebook user. For your knowledge, every email on the Internet has to have headers per RFC standards, and they’re added by the servers handling the email. The email client on the receiving end may omit these headers, but they will be there regardless. The Good part about this is when you receive Notification email from facebook saying for example:

" {Facebook user} sent you a message on Facebook." OR " {Facebook user} commented on a photo of you on Facebook"

Along with Facebook’s Server IP, They also include the IP address of the ‘Facebook user’ in the Header of the email. So why not we use this Bug? ofcourse you will need to enable ‘Full header’ in the email. If you don’t know how to view header of the email please read our previous post :

-I assume that you have the header opened. just look for the line that says “X-Facebook” in the headers. Here’s an example:

The IP address above is Base64 encoded and Yes “MTI3LjAuMC4x” is the String that you got to decode. Now grab a good Base64 to ASCII text Converter and decode the string to get the IP address. After decoding “MTI3LjAuMC4x” will become 127.0.0.1. isn’t it so simple?.

-Worried about your Privacy?

If you are worried about your Privacy than it’s worth telling you that knowing an IP address isn’t necessarily a security risk. For example, Web sites and other servers must have their IP address publicized in order to get traffic. It’s like knowing the mailing address to a house: Sure, it’s better if someone doesn’t know where your house is, but if they do, they would still need to bypass the home security to break in. eventually IP address is enough for a hacker to break into your network if your Firewall is weak. so better be careful. May be facebook should use encryption instead of encoding for privacy purpose….but who cares?

-Now that you have the IP, What next?

Now that you already have the IP address you can do lot of things. if you know some hacking, you would probably test you skills on that IP address. If it’s serious issue i would recommend take the IP address and go file FIR against that person. or you can always lookup more information about that IP. To do so we will be using IP tracer service. Go to the below address and paste the IP address in the box that says “lookup this ip or website”. and it will show you the location of the user.

It will show you all the information about that user along with his ISP and a Location in the MAP. Now in the MAP Just click on “click for big ip address location” in the big picture you can actually zoom in. and try to recognize the area. If any serious matter just note down the ISP details in that page and contact them about the IP. they will respond you.

for what it is worth , not to intrude but to give an example of what goes on with these types of "oh , by the way , *someone* wants you to be their friend on (insert your favorite social networking site here ---> X ) scam/crap ...

i have received a few emails from a person that i do not know , have never heard of and from a social site that i would not touch with a 10 foot pole .

the emails have been sent to the email service for further investigation .

is the email you received legit ?

given the circumstances , it is better to err on the side of safety and not respond to it as was suggested .

if you are concerned about offending someone you know by not "accepting" their "invitation" you might try asking a few of those "friends" if they sent such an email and/or have they received such (or similar) items .

You think it is legit? And you "don't know this person", well that is fine but if you wish to ignore good advice given you by knowledgeable members who are even kind enough to do your searches for you then do not expect much help in future. <_<

i wasnt ignoring the advice i said i think the email was ligit as in someone was trying to actually add me to facebook but for some reason the request was revoked more then likely because someone reported the person

the email turned out to be HOURS old when i actually read it and when i checked facebook there wasnt actually an invite (hence why i think it was revoked but i could be wrong and the email could have been a scam to hack my facebook account but i didnt click any of hte links)

but i did research my self and some of the ips where coming up as belonging to facebook

and the comment i made about the answer comput gave me as not helping is because it didnt answer my questino if hte email was ligit the info he gave me was to find out a persons ip address of someone who was already your friend on facebook or at least that was my understanding

i apologize if i came off as rude and ignoring there advice

i did delete the email but i was just curious if it was ligit or not
