Cannot uninstall Malwarebytes

I tried to uninstall this Malwarebytes anti malware software.

It still showed up in 'add remove programs' and there was a folder full of files still in 'local disk' 'program files' 'Malwarebytes'

I was able to remove the entry in 'add remove progs' and most of the files in the programs folder all except one: mbamext.dll

Also why can I not remove Malwarebytes from my context menu?

I deleted MBAMShlExt from context menu handlers in the registry but it did not go away.

Let me just tell you that any program that is this hard to remove from a computer just flat out SUCKS

That's odd, I've installed and uninstalled Malwarebytes on plenty of computers and I've never had that issue before. It's possible that another security software was preventing it from being removed or that for some reason you didn't have full admin privelages. In my experiences MBAM is an excellent software and I'm sorry you had these difficulties with it, perhaps one of the developers will respond to this thread with some assistance for you (if you still need any). The issue is that the Registry and, or File / Folder permissions on the system are not correct and this causes issues for all types of programs when trying to install or remove.

Just do a little bit of Google searching and you'll see plenty. Even Adobe has knowledgebase articles for using SubInACL to modify permissions to remove some of their products, or install some.

If you are correct about permissions (which I suspect you are), then I would try running dial-a-fix (google is your friend) as it will scan for and fix problems with permissions without having to go through it manually with subinacl.

Never seen or used it myself but I would be a bit leery of using something that old on a newer PC as you could potentially cause unexpected damage as well.

It's a shame all of you 'smart' computer people couldn't come up with a simple solution.

I am the 'administrator' for this machine and so it is obviously not an issue with folder rights computer.

The simple fix was to rename the file .ddd reboot and then delete it.

Over the years I have used quite a number of free programs like Mawarebytes and there are very few I trust. Most of this stuff is probably written by the same people who are out there writing the viruses and malware to begin with....Job creation for geeks.
