Notifications MBytes detection pointing to service.notification.center.exe

Recommended Posts

Since yesterday, my MalwareBytes program started detecting a possible trojan at the folder C:ProgramData/Notification Center/service.notification.center.exe.  It started after I installed NoPing to improve my internet route that was bad. Even after uninstalling the program, the notifications continues at this folder like a spam, one after the other all time.

I added the logs in English "mbst-grab-results.zip" to the topic too.

Logs (text in portuguese):

Hello  @Tchukine  and  :welcome:

My name is MKDB and I will assist you.

Let's keep these principles as we proceed. Make sure to read the entire post below first.

  • Please follow the steps in the given order and post back the log files.
  • Please attach all log files into your post.
  • Before we start, please make sure that you have an external backup, not connected to this system, of all private data.
  • Only run the tools I guide you to. Please don't run any other scans, download, install or uninstall any programs while I'm working with you.
  • As English is not my native language, please do not use slang or idioms. It may be hard for me to understand.
  • If you do not respond within 4 days, your topic will be closed.
  • Cracked or hacked or pirated programs are not only illegal, but also will make a computer a malware victim. Having such programs installed, is the easiest way to get infected. It is the leading cause of ransomware encryptions. It is at times also a big source of current trojan infections. If you are running any kin of illegal software on your system, please uninstall them now, before we start the cleaning procedure.

Please give me some time to review what you have posted!

Thank you!

@Tchukine

We will use Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) to run a fix. FRST was downloaded together with MBST and should be located in your download folder: C:\Users\Tchukine\Downloads\FRSTEnglish.exe

The fix may take some time, please be very patient and do not interfere.

  • Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to your download folder, which is C:\users\Tchukine\Downloads\ in your case.
  • You will find the file FRSTEnglish.exe (FRST) as well in this folder.

Note: It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

  • Close all open programs and save your work.
  • Run FRST.
  • Press the Fix button only once and wait. Please be patient and do not interfere, even if FRST does not respond for some time. That's nothing to worry about.
  • Please note: This Fix will remove all temporary files, empty recycle bin and will remove cookies and may result in some websites indicating they do not recognize your computer. It may be necessary to receive and apply a verification code.
  • Please note: This step resets your Firewall settings and you may be asked later to grant permission for legitimate programs to pass through the Firewall. If you recognize the program, agree to the request.
  • If the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
  • FRST will create one log now (Fixlog.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach this logfile to your next reply.
  • FRST will create a .zip file like < Date_Time.zip >, for example 20.02.2024_11.33.52.zip, on your desktop as well. Please attach this file as well with your next answer.
  • If you can't upload that zip file due to a big filesize, try to upload it to WeTransfer and send me a private message with the transfer link.

@Tchukine

Thank you for those logfiles and the information.

Can you attach the zip file from your desktop as well, please?

4 minutes ago, Tchukine said:

But, my internet is now extremely slow after running the files you send, thats supposed to happen? I can barely use my browser.

Please do the following: Reboot your system.

Next, run a fresh scan with FRST and FSS to check the results.

Thank you.

1️⃣

  • Run FRST again.
  • Do not change any settings.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • FRST will create two logs now (FRST.txt + Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach these logfiles to your next reply.

2️⃣

Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and and save it to your desktop.

  • Make sure the following options are checked:
  • Internet Services
  • Windows Firewall
  • System Restore
  • Security Center/Action Center
  • Windows Update
  • Windows Defender
  • Other Services
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach this logfile to your next reply.

@Tchukine

Well, you posted logfiles from FSS and FRST, but in safe mode and not in normal mode.

@Tchukine

No need to run FSS and FRST in safe mode, please run both tools in normal mode and attach the logfiles.

Thanks.

As long as normal mode works, you should ran every scan in normal mode.

Thanks.

Hello @Tchukine

While we await @MKDB to return, please run the following fix

Please run the following fix - Make sure you temporarily disable your Avast AV real-time protection or this fix will not run correctly.

NOTE: Please read all of the information below before running this fix.

  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine.
  • Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system that cannot be undone.

Once the fix has been completed, please attach the file FIXLOG.TXT to your next reply

Farbar program:   FRSTEnglish.exe

Save the attached file:  FIXLIST.TXT to this folder C:\Users\Tchukine\Downloads\FSS\

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRSTEnglish.exe, and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Please make sure you disable any real-time antivirus or security software before running this script. Once completed, make sure you re-enable it.

Run the Farbar program with Admin rights and press the Fix button just once and wait.

The fix may possibly take up to 60 minutes to complete

If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log named Fixlog.txt in the same folder you ran the Farbar program from. Please attach that log on your next reply.

  1. NOTE:  This fix will run a scan to check that all Microsoft operating system files are valid and not corrupt and attempt to correct any invalid files. It will also run a disk check on the restart to ensure disk integrity.
  2. NOTE: As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications may be automatically closed.
Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies may possibly be removed in some cases, but not all cases.
  3. NOTE: As part of this fix, it will also reset the network to default settings including the firewall. If you have custom firewall rules you need to save please export or save them first before running this fix.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Discord cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the fix has run.

Please download KpRm by kernel-panik and save it to your desktop.

  • right-click kprm_(version).exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • Read and accept the disclaimer.
  • When the tool opens, ensure all boxes under Actions are checked.
  • Under Delete Quarantines select Delete Now, then click Run.
  • Once complete, click OK.
  • A log will open in Notepad titled kprm-(date).txt. You can close it.
