stumpymattycat Posted April 12 Author ID:1629812 Share Posted April 12 I need to at the very least keep it alive long enough for me to get a new one. That could take a while. Plus, I need to find one I can actually get. I'm from the UK.
stumpymattycat Posted April 12 Author ID:1629814 Share Posted April 12 As well as that, if possible, can someone send me a hard drive simular to my own, like AdvancedSetup did, that I can get in the UK relatively quickly and inexpensively? I am a kid, so it might take a while, so the inexpensive part is key.
Porthos Posted April 12 ID:1629816 Share Posted April 12 Once you have a new drive installing it and installing Windows can be difficult for many. I would get this drive https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silicon-Power-512GB-Performance-Internal/dp/B07KQZ1Z53/ref=sr_1_5?crid=30L9I2ANP9CU0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.AAoWyr3p-SafhALVboKlNJ6Lan2-vX3AitLZeZqnEf1GTAlK5s-jwu4OidQ2vQRu7dWzZB1ryfWJEW3pncr8s8kj_1cxOOkh0XVRMhU4MPSq20o3yEOGkLHIQKi7y7eg_p8WlBZ7yl3VGNTga7cv6tckCg2IQg7bKVi1wsV40IiDt2eZ7k59_TNxqyxXwXgxf_e8H9s50yyq6ELZVf1hU-64B4dVd-kze1dxQzJevk8.HNpt_VHvSkzMciAUnDWRBm88EvUm9xRE7mFtN30_txg&dib_tag=se&keywords=ssd%2Bdrive%2Binternal&sprefix=ssd%2Bdrive%2Caps%2C308&sr=8-5&th=1 And this adapter so the new drive physically fits the place the old one is at. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ORICO-Mounting-Bracket-Adapter-Removable-Black/dp/B07QVX8TWJ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2Z9IF4EPM6FAR&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.EB3KLgHk3FK8eAlAvvnlQRL24iITOKqsiyMuXK9mZXsFVqRa4hZCHijFxOX5AFRO6TJ4B647HqjtRcrMevoh9a5ZMUv-vK2WOqvmQKvYgLg5C309AhsaFTlB-7LOwV_6CFZAHPOzKs21Ah0dBgXiW1KVsDCkRuX_ruqCDUaxBEfhUUBQaGBD2fXQlISM6ak_6obZBfyd2xah--FE0zi-zBVMmuUYLfsYYGu5jglx3rw.lqjc7EYdgo4w_4h7VH-Knn3OBmKSa1PTTE4jSCOM1qI&dib_tag=se&keywords=2.5+to+3.5+ssd+mounting+bracket&sprefix=2.5+to+3.5%2Caps%2C367&sr=8-
stumpymattycat Posted April 15 Author ID:1630211 Share Posted April 15 2 questions. 1: How can I keep the hard drive alive long enough. 2: If I leave this until I get a new hard drive, which could take weeks, will this automatically close, as said at the beginning? Don't use the computer. 3 minutes ago, stumpymattycat said: If I leave this until I get a new hard drive, which could take weeks, will this automatically close, as said at the beginning? You could create a new topic then since after you get a new drive, it will be about installing Windows.

stumpymattycat Posted April 15 Author ID:1630216 Share Posted April 15 It's already off, but I didn't hold shift. Should I do it by the plug so I don't have to turn it on again
David H. Lipman Posted April 15 ID:1630218 Share Posted April 15 (edited) If there are no lights on the PC that are "On" and you have shut down the PC, you can unplug it. Store it in a place where there are no excessive temperature swings and where the temperature and humidity are kept relatively the same over the time it takes to replace the spindle hard disk with a Solid State disk. stumpymattycat Posted April 16 Author ID:1630429 Share Posted April 16 Judging by the fact that people were able to come up with replacements for it, I'm guessing you have access to what hard drive I had in the first place. In which case, what do I have, bc I can't remember which, and can you find one that I can easily replace it with, maybe even the same kind?

stumpymattycat Posted April 19 Author ID:1631384 Share Posted April 19 Ik it's been quite a bit of time, but, if what I've already sent makes shows you, can you tell me what kind of hard drive I have? Kinda forgot the specs and I've had it turned off for a good bit of time now, and I intend to keep it that way until I get a new one.

stumpymattycat Posted April 19 Author ID:1631388 Share Posted April 19 I know what to replace it with. I just wanted to know for when I have to start another topic, after I get the hard drive.

Do you even know how to install Windows on a new drive? Have you ever done it before? It is not a case of plugging in a new drive and having a working computer. stumpymattycat Posted April 19 Author ID:1631391 Share Posted April 19 Nope. Why I'd need to start a new topic. Don't know how to transfer the data either.

We get they are paying for the drive, But do they know how to do the actual work? Sounds like you would be better off taking it to a local shop. stumpymattycat Posted April 19 Author ID:1631400 Share Posted April 19 Local shops are far to expensive. My dad managed to upgrade my ram no problem, so unless this is much more complicated, it should be fine.

Ram is just plug in and bam it just works. Installing Windows after you get it baked up on an external drive is a whole different thing entirely. I do this for a living. For now, I need to get back to it and check back later.
stumpymattycat Posted April 19 Author ID:1631404 Share Posted April 19 I'd go to a computer shop, but we've not got the money. I'm saving for the hard drive myself; that's why it might take a while. We won't have the money to go to a computer shop, so it would be really useful to know how to do it without going to one. Of course, I don't need it now, as I don't have the hard drive yet, but we don't really have much other option.
