Pedro1212 Posted December 31, 2023 ID:1608344 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Hi. I have asked about this a while ago and was adviced it was likely a false positive (on virustotal not malwarebytes). Forgot all about it but ran a routine system scan today but now suddenly malwarebytes flagged it as malware. And now when I run it at virustotal it comes up with lots of detectioons. before it was only a 1-3. Here is a link to the file on virustotal: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/5a4cf693cc176b5a6ccfa6b36f1c4c125c96b097c3e1edc1ecf02a691bb28895

JSntgRvr Posted December 31, 2023 ID:1608356 Share Posted December 31, 2023 That's OK. Welcome I'll be helping you with your computer. Please read this post completely before beginning. If there's anything that you do not understand, please don't hesitate to ask before proceeding. Please take note of the guidelines for this fix: Please note that I am a volunteer. I do have a family, a career, and other endeavors that may prevent immediate responses that meet your schedule. Do note that the differences in time zones could present a problem as well. Your patience and understanding will be greatly appreciated. First of all, the procedures we are about to perform are specific to your problem and should only be used on this specific computer. Do not make any changes to your computer that include installing/uninstalling programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, nor running scanners or tools of any kind unless specifically requested by me. Please read ALL instructions carefully and perform the steps fully and in the order they are written. If things appear to be better, let me know. Just because the symptoms no longer exist as before, does not mean that you are clean. Continue to read and follow my instructions until I tell you that your machine is clean. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask before performing the task that I ask of you, and please wait for my reply before you proceed. Scanning with programs and reading the logs do take a fair amount of time. Again, your patience will be necessary. Let's begin... The tool saved FRST64.exe on this location: C:\Users\peder\Downloads\FRSTEnglish.exe Download the enclosed file Fixlist.txt Save it in the same location FRST64.exe is saved. Start FRST (FRST64) with Administrator privileges This time around Press the Fix button and wait When finished, a log file (Fixlog.txt) will pop up and saved in the same location the tool was ran from. Please attach this file in your next reply. Download AdwCleaner and save it to your desktop. Double click AdwCleaner.exe to run it. When AdwCleaner starts, on the left side of the window, click on “Settings” and then enable these repair actions on that tab-window by clicking their button to the far-right for ON status Delete IFEO keys Delete tracing keys Delete Prefetch files Reset Proxy Reset IE Policies Reset Chrome policies Reset Winsock Reset HOSTS file Click Scan Now ... When the scan has finished a Scan Results window will open. Click Cancel (at this point do not attempt to Quarantine anything that is found) Now click the Log Files tab ... Double click on the latest scan log (Scan logs have a [S0*] suffix, where * is replaced by a number, the latest scan will have the largest number) A Notepad file will open containing the results of the scan. Please attach the file in your next reply.

Thank you for helping, although I am still not sure how this could be a malware file as it is a well known program used by many people and I got it directly from the creators github. If it is malicious it is gonna be a small scandal I think.

David H. Lipman Posted December 31, 2023 ID:1608368 Share Posted December 31, 2023 FYI: I submitted the file in Post ID:1608344 as a possible False Positive detection by Malwarebytes. Suspected F/P - Generic.Malware/Suspicious
JSntgRvr Posted December 31, 2023 ID:1608370 Share Posted December 31, 2023 It was detected as part of this program: C:\Users\peder\OneDrive\Skrivebord\benchmark soft\DS4Windows\DS4Updater.exe Do you recognize it?
David H. Lipman Posted December 31, 2023 ID:1608374 Share Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) Nope. But I was able to find it. https://www.techspot.com/downloads/7176-ds4windows.html I downloaded the "Windows 32-bit" and downloaded the ZIP. I found "DS4Updater.exe" and while it is not the named DS4Updater.DLL stated in the VT Report and had a different Checksum value, it too was equally named DS4Updater.DLL in its VT Report. There are other artifacts such as strings, size, similar detections (such as MBAM's Generic.Malware/Suspicious) and others that lead me to my presumption of a False Positive. I did that based upon seeing a lot Generic and Heuristic type detections in said VT Report. Edited December 31, 2023 by David H. Solution JSntgRvr Posted December 31, 2023 Solution ID:1608384 Share Posted December 31, 2023 That should be it. Congratulations. Use this application to remove tools used: Please download KpRm by Kernel-panik and save to your Desktop. Click on KpRm.exe to run the tool.
