AdwCleaner PUP.Optional.Legacy

Recommended Posts

Hello, so AdwCleaner have been detecting a PUP.Optional.Legacy everytime I've been scanning from a folder called "Packer" located at "C:\ProgramData\Packer" even if the folder is empty.
As far as I know it's been ignoring the file in it and only alerts about the folder itself, originally it was a file called something like "captcha.bin" in it and that file and the folder randomly pops up time to time, and I'm not sure yet which program that keeps adding it back.

Is this something to worry about or is this a false positive flag? My PC is just a week old and I have only downloaded trusted programs and games as well as ASUS Armoury Crate.
Both Malwarebytes and Windows Defender shows that my PC is clean when I virus scan it so idk

Thanks in advanced!!

Hello @Intrilo

Is the folder not actually being removed or is the folder being recreated by some process?

The folder is getting removed but once every other day or so it's being recreated with the catache.bin(around 500kb) file in it

First I thought it was related to Asus Armoury Crate because the first time i removed it the program stopped working and I had to reinstall it but now I have uninstalled it because it was giving me other problems and the map and the file in it still pops up every other day or so,  but it is only the map it detecs not the file itself thats in it

Once the file is in there can you zip it and attach for review?

That is not an OEM folder I've heard of before.

Let's go ahead and scan with some other scanners to double-check

Please download and run the following Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2020 and save it to your Desktop.

(Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool version 20.0.10.0 was released on November 9, 2021)

Download: Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool

Select the  image.png  Windows Key and R Key together, the "Run" box should open.

Drag and Drop KVRT.exe into the Run Box.

C:\Users\{your user name}\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe will now show in the run box.

add -dontencrypt   Note the space between KVRT.exe and -dontencrypt

C:\Users\{your user name}\DESKTOP\KVRT.exe -dontencrypt should now show in the Run box.

That addendum to the run command is very important, when the scan does eventually complete the resultant report is normally encrypted, with the extra command it is saved as a readable file.

Reports are saved here C:\KVRT2020_Data\Reports and look similar to this report_20210123_113021.klr
Right-click direct onto that report, select > open with > Notepad. Save that file and attach it to your reply.

To start the scan select OK in the "Run" box.

A EULA window will open, tick all confirmation boxes then select "Accept"

image.png

In the new window select "Change Parameters"

image.png

In the new window ensure all selection boxes are ticked, then select "OK" The scan should now start...

user posted image

When complete if entries are found there will be options, if "Cure" is offered leave as is. For any other options change to "Delete" then select "Continue"

user posted image

When complete, or if nothing was found select "Close"

Attach the report information as previously instructed...

Thank you
