Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Guidance and/or a solution is appreciated.

That version no longer has updates.

Your Windows 7 computer needs to be upgraded to version 4.

The Vista computer is no longer supported with 3.5.1 any longer at this time.

Per Malwarebytes online page information there is no end date.

The page will be updated sometime in the future.

If possible, could you please provide a link of when this decision was posted at Malwarebytes.com?  I was unable to find it.

Has not been posted anywhere at this time yet.

Hi Porthos:

What page are you referring to?  I just checked the product lifecycle page at Malwarebytes for Windows v3 Product Lifecycle and it still indicates that the legacy v3.5.1 product for Win XP and Vista has not reached "End of Maintenance".

I just suggested to someone in another forum that they should try a MB Free v3.5.1 Threat Scan on their Win XP SP3 machine just in case their Avast antivirus missed something. I would hope that Malwarebytes would have given us a bit of notice before they stopped delivering malware definition updates to Win XP and Vista users, if that's what they've done.

Running Windows XP or Vista at this point in time with or without Malwarebytes isn't going to make a lot of difference. There are now hundreds of known exploits that can only be patched by Microsoft but Microsoft stopped supporting XP and Vista years ago.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-xp

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-vista

Though Malwarebytes might be able to fend off some attacks it is not mean to prevent all security exploits from not patching a system.

By hook or by crook get onto Windows 10 or 11 or seek out some version of Linux would be your best choice. Running XP or Vista is simply looking to be attacked sooner or later.

As said, the documentation simply needs updating. The team is currently reviewing that and should update it in the future.

I do agree but you would be surprised on what systems that many of you still use that require these legacy OS to run.  I am responsible for a few of them and have done well so far since EOL on both Win7 and WinVista by hardening, layering and understanding very well exploitables within these legacy OSs.  In the meantime be happy (or worried) that there are still folks out there maintaining these systems to run most of our current services where you may least expected (i.e. ATMs, Hospitals, Airports, Factories, Doctor/Dentist/Lawyer offices, etc.).  Again, thank you for the feedback.

Respectfully,

Absolutely there are and they are feeding this multi billion dollar ransomware industry where thousands of these systems each year are compromised. There are enough systems that are up to date that are attacked without the easy pickings of these older systems.

Has a final decision been made about EOL for Malwarebytes v3.5.1 (the legacy version for Win XP and Vista)?  I checked the support article Malwarebytes for Windows v3 Product Lifecycle today and dates for End of Life / End of Support for Malwarebytes v3.5.1 are still blank.

Just an FYI to Malwarebytes employees that a Forum Mod already deleted the post (ID # 1346728) about Malwarebytes support for legacy Windows XP and Vista operating systems from Erix's pinned thread Malwarebytes 4 FAQs but forgot to remove the (now broken) link to that deleted post <here> in the table of contents.
