Issue after 4.5.14 install

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Long time user, rarely have issues.

This morning, installed the 4.5.14 update. After doing so, the window for MWB did NOT automatically reopen. Attempts to "open malwarebytes" by either clicking on the small icon on the right of the taskbar or the start menu did not allow the window to appear, though Windows Security showed it was running. After waiting several minutes without success, I logged out and logged back in. After doing so, the MWB icon on the desktop was corrupted and I still couldn't open from the start menu. At that point, I downloaded the support tool and did a clear install. It now seems to be working normally, but oddly has also created several blank spaces on my taskbar (see attached pic, between the ZOOM icon and the support tool which is running). When I hover over these spaces and right click, it gives me options associated with MWB, suggesting that these blank spaces are actually other MWB icons which are somehow missing. If I right click to unpin one, it actually ends up removing the one that IS showing on the taskbar (to the left of the ZOOM icon and to the RIGHT of Excel icon, and replaces it with another blank space. So I don't want to do that again.

While these are technically invisible, they are annoying and should not be how MWB is functioning. Any ideas how this happened and, more importantly, how to fix?

Update:

After a reboot, the "missing icons" temporarily cleared. However, the underlying problem seems to persist. Specifically, I have the MWB icon pinned on my taskbar (pulled from the start menu). If I open MWB using either the start menu or the pinned icon, the window opens normally, and the MWB icon in the taskbar gets a light blue underline, showing that there is a window open (behavior as expected). However, if I open MWB by using the small M icon in the system tray, right clicking and then clicking "open Malwarebytes", it opens the same window on my desktop, but creates a NEW MWB icon on the taskbar, duplicating the one I have pinned there. If I close the desktop window, the blue M disappears, but the blank space remains. Hopefully my ability to duplicate the problem will help the devs identify the issue.

Thanks!

Thanks for the logs...

I would try this to see if it fixes it for you.

Do an uninstall using the support tool (Clean)

Then Reboot the computer, Install a fresh copy, (do not install Malwarebytes Privacy)
Activate (if not already activated)
Reboot one more time (even if it does not ask you too.
See if that corrects your issues.

Update:

This worked, mostly. However, for whatever reason, if you try to pin the icon that the installation drops on the desktop to the taskbar, it makes a blue M that is separate from the one that appears if you open the program using the system tray.

I’ll stick with the system tray one.

happy to provide more logs if it would be helpful but i consider this predominantly solved. Thanks for your help!
