Bobc11 Posted October 17, 2009 ID:144681 Share Posted October 17, 2009 Hello! I just bought a new computer running windows vista home premium and i can not back up the system with Norton ghost 10.0. Would you be able to backup the entire system (MBR, Windows Files , other partitions) using the built in backup utility?
MysteryFCM Posted October 18, 2009 ID:144779 Share Posted October 18, 2009 Not using the built in facilities, no.You may want to try CloneZilla if Ghost isn't playing well;clonezilla.sourceforge.net
yardbird Posted October 18, 2009 ID:144829 Share Posted October 18, 2009 I'll never argue the point with Steven, I'll lose But I'v backed up an Image on 3 pc's using Norton Ghost... Pulled out the small hard drives, (notebooks) 30gb & 40 gb on two of them, Put in two Western Digitals 80gb each.. its was a sweet transfer. Everything loaded up on to the new HD's just fine... but I was using XP Pro, not Vista?FWIW.....Norton Ghost can be tricky. I did experence that it did not like certain Ext. USB Hard Drive's ie: my Maxtor 200GB was a problem. and had to buy another brand.... someday I may find out why myself? good luck..
exile360 Posted October 18, 2009 ID:144830 Share Posted October 18, 2009 You can also use the free version of Macrium Reflect or you can upgrade to Vista Ultimate and get the full image backup functionality, but not quite as handy as CloneZilla or Macrium Reflect, plus it's not free .
