Malwarebytes and BitDefender

Go to solution Solved by Firefox,

For the past two years I have been running Malwarebytes and Bitdefender side by side with no issues. I like the extra protection and the products do not do exactly the same things. Yesterday, MB updated and now Bitdefender will not give me complete protection until I uninstall it. Bitdefender defaults to a "Lite" version (see screenshot). BD will not let me "continue" without uninstalling MB. I contacted BD and as you can guess, they were no help. They basically said, you have to uninstall MB or use BD Lite. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggested solution from the MB side?

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

I'm also having this issue since last week and the suggestion from Firefox doesn't work for me.

What can I do? I certainly don't want to uninstall MB (it saved my a** a couple of times!). And, as FredGreco already said, MB and BD don't do exactly the same thing. In my opinion, they are complementary.

Any other solution?

Thank you.

I'm sorry the software isn't working properly but we'll do our best to help.
To begin, please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation for troubleshooting:
NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply
Thank you

Looks like you are running a slightly older version (4.4.4.126). We just released a new version of Malwarebytes, 4.4.6.132 component package 1.0.1453 as mentioned HERE:

While we wait for someone on staff to review your logs... here are some suggestions you can try.

I would recommend first to do a clean re-install of Malwarebytes, this will get you on the latest version. To do that simply run the same tool you used to gather the logs, click on the Advanced tab on the left, and then choose 2nd Option to do a Clean Re-Install, reboot computer once you are done.

If that does not solve your issue, then add mutual exceptions into your AV and Malwarebytes as mentioned in this article:  Malwarebytes for Windows antivirus exclusions list

Following up the same recommendations from @Firefox for you @JBL15

Can you please do the following?

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click the CLEAN button and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Malwarebytes
  • NOTE: Please have patience as it can take a while to remove and reinstall. The computer will restart to complete

After the restart please do the following

  • Run the MBST Support Tool
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your desktop, please upload that file on your next reply

Thank you

Well, I did a clean re-install of MB. After that, I turned off the feature regarding the Windows Security Center and re-added BD as an exception in MB (MB was already listed as an exception in BD).

I rebooted my PC twice after re-installing MB but it only got worse. These annoying BD windows telling me to uninstall MB or to use their "Lite" version (see screenshots - sorry about that but BD speaks French to me!) kept coming every two or three minutes for about half an hour!

Anyway, here is the second zip file.

It's almost midnight in France. I will check my PC again tomorrow after a good night's sleep. In any case, I will keep you posted.

Hello @JBL15

Is this the Free or Paid version of BitDefender?

What it looks like you may need to do is fully uninstall Malwarebytes. Then restart the computer. Get BitDefender working properly and updated.

Then install Malwarebytes. However, it looks like BD may at some point scan and find MB again and could possibly ask you to remove again. Have not tested long term.

Unless you have some strong affinity to BitDefender I'd go with Windows Defender. It is on par with BD in many cases and works well alongside Malwarebytes.

If you really want to keep BD and it keeps complaining then I'm sorry it look like you just might have to stop using Malwarebytes. We cannot prevent them from detecting and alerting on our software.
