Let's start with the most obvious problem with my PC, the critical updates

Recommended Posts

Those updates will not work until you get your version of Windows up to date.

I think you have a couple of options. I would try option 1 first and if that does not work then try option 2

Option 1

Visit the following site and click on the Update now button
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Option 2

Visit the same link but download the Media Creation Tool

Then burn the ISO image to an 8GB or 16GB USB Thumb drive

At that point you can attempt to do repair of the old Windows, or upgrade the version of Windows using the USB disk.

Option 3

Back up all your data and do a Clean Install of Windows 10

Greg has a great article on doing a clean install, but I don't agree with him about using an Online account. I prefer to use a Local Account - I don't share anything online

K I have done a fresh install of Windows 10, and now there is still a myriad of supreme weirdness going on and the vast majority of it is way beyond my paygrade so... I did have MBAM detect something today after NINETEEN hours of scanning.  so that was excessive likely... I am so exhausted from all of this that I don't know what to do nor do I feel like even going into it anymore.  I have SS and files that are suspicious and more than concerning but I doubt anyone can do much from there so... blargh.

Night night.

Hello @jnottingham

We'd need to get new logs to see what's going on. It's quite late for me here and I'm sick so I'm going to bed. Will try to check back on you tomorrow if I can, otherwise on Monday.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Also, please get the following

Please download HWiNFO the Professional System Information and Diagnostics program.
HWiNFO Portable for Windows

Unzip the program to its own folder such as:  C:\HWiNFO
Go to the new folder and locate the file C:\HWiNFO\HWiNFO64.exe and double-click to run it.
Click the RUN button.
Ignore the update, click close.
Click on Save Report and choose HTML and click Next, then Finish
By default, it will create a new report named COMPUTER.HTM in the same folder as the program. C:\HWiNFO
Please zip that file and attach it to your next reply

Thank you

I hope you are feeling better!

Let's see what happens here.  Will be a bit because I am meant to pick up a friend whose without a car.  :)

Gods, I am seeing the .png I posted here and it truly is rubbish, I apologize.  Anyway, am I meant to do the SFC as well as the DSIM?  Or is that a dumb question because the second is only necessary if the first doesn't work... >.>

Feeling blonde ugh.

SFC already shows that it alone cannot work. Try the DISM to see if it can fix it so that SFC does work.

Normally this is what is ran.

sfc /scannow (then if errors see if DISM can fix and run SFC again)
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow (does it now return a success messaage)

Please don't think I am mentally challenged but I apparently am doing this all in the wrong order.  I did the CheckHealth one first, now it's doing ScanHeatlh and it's taking a bit of time.

  • really quickly... let me show you a thing before it is mysteriously gone.

  • These two right now for example both have expired SSL's and the second one has the time stamps out of chronological order.

And it's running now, no I don't have ADHD but weed is legal in NV and I made the mistake of taking my son to the dispensary and I ate a piece of a gummy something ... not going to make me any brighter, let me just say.  I know that is off topic, completely.  Shhh.
