How long does your pc take to boot up?

That looks impressive. I confess a lot of the terminology doesn't mean much to me though (EDIT - though it obviously does to exile! ). My laptop was just a cheapie - much less than that processor on Newegg if my maths is right (converting from US to NZ $).

Oh I see! Sorry for not knowing these things. That must be what is happening when the computer has been idle for an hour or two and then it randomly starts making noises and the lights flicker as if it is doing something big. I've often wondered about that. I asked my father what that was about once, and he said it could be "indexing", is that the same thing?

Indexing is one of the tasks it performs when idle, but indexing is where it reads files and their location and stores the info in the index to make searches more speedy .

Windows 7 improves boot up time for me just like swagger in post #10 mine takes only about 30 seconds though:

Only 11 days to wait for Vista users.

Marvellous - after boasting about 60 secs to load, I've just downloaded SP3 and it now takes 90 secs!!

Just give it time. Your system needs to relearn and reset prefetch etc.

Depends-

On my linux computer- 15-25 seconds

Windows-45-60 seconds

Windows/Linux Dual Boot about 1:30-2:30 because you have to select options on boot up.
