Windows Small Business Server 2008 Compatibility and Workaround

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased MalwareBytes Premium for a small business client of mine.

Seems like Windows Server 2008 and Windows Small Business Server 2008 are not compatible with the latest version.

As I prep my client for a server upgrade - what are my options for getting protection in the interim?

What is the latest working version for Windows SBS 2008 ?

Fastest solution seems like downloading from old version from third party site like oldversion.com (not most ideal solution).

Hello and Welcome @sbz

The consumer version is Malwarebytes is not intended to be installed on a file server and is not supported at this time. You may try asking in the business section to see what is available for your situation: Business Section is HERE

From the main site:

Hi sbz:

Further to Firefox's comment, please note that home consumer users cannot install the latest Malwarebytes v3.8.3 on Win XP SP3 or Vista SP2 computer and must install the legacy Malwarebytes v3.5.1 described in the FAQ post Malwarebytes Support for Legacy Windows XP and Vista Operating Systems .  Also note that the real-time ransomware protection feature of Malwarebytes Premium is not available with these older operating systems.

Vista SP2 shares most of its code with Windows Server 2008, and Malwarebytes staffer djacobsen's 19-Feb-2019 post in Windows Server 2003 Failing to Run Scans in the Malwarebytes for Business Support forum suggests that you might also have to run an older legacy version of Malwarebytes Endpoint Security (local management) or Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection (cloud-based management) on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 (32-bit) machine.  I'd suggest contacting their Sales department at https://www.malwarebytes.com/business/contact-us/ to see which product they recommended for your client.
