Greetings,

Are you seeing a notification about a website being blocked, or is it coming from a scheduled scan or some other component of Malwarebytes real-time protection?  You can tell based on the title of the notification (it will say something like Website blocked or Potential threat blocked etc.).  You can find examples of the various types of notifications on page 25 of the Malwarebytes user guide which is available for download here (you will need a PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader to view it).

If necessary, you can do the following and we can take a look at what's going on with the system and your Malwarebytes installation:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Hello exile360 Good to meet you.

I'm just want you to know that I'm am no expert on computers, but I will certainly do what I can to help you help me. I'm using Windows 10 and Chrome.

I feel it necessary to tell you more about my problem.

The other day I had some downloaded images in my Downloads folder. At that time my default program for looking at images was the basic Photo Viewer that comes along with windows 10 I believe. What happened was, when I clicked on one of the images to view, the surrounding color of the image had turned white when it should be black. Not knowing what to do, I just decided to download a program similar to Photo viewer called FastStone image viewer and used that. The last couple mornings I awoke and checked my computer, Malwarebytes had a pop up letting me know that it had detected PUP. I quarantined them and took a screenshot just in case I needed help. (I uninstalled the FastStone a little earlier, about an hour or so ago, just in case it was that causing problems.) What is really concerning me is damage to my pc. Anything you can do to help however little, would be great. The two screenshots below are:

1. The white color bordering the image of Photo Viewer that should be black but is white. The horse should have black surrounding it I believe.

2. A screenshot of recently quarantined items.

3. The Zip you requested

Ah, I see what the PUP is.  It's a program called Reimage.  It was likely bundled with something you installed (as it often is), possibly with the FastStone Image Viewer you downloaded (which itself is a good program, but depending on where you got it, could have been altered to include the Reimage software in its installer).  You can learn more about Reimage and why it is detected by Malwarebytes here.

As for the picture you're having trouble viewing properly, that's a new one to me.  I'm using Windows 7 so it may be different, but at least by default, when the area of an image surrounding a picture is transparent (such as with a .PNG type of image as well as a few other formats), the background appears as more of a blue or offwhite color.  You can see an example of this below taken from my own system in Windows Photo Viewer (the version that ships with Windows 7):

PNG.thumb.png.f200447e599a768e0eb9daaeba126e55.png

Every part of that image except for the four colored squares is actually transparent, so that space is filled in with the default background color used by Windows Photo Viewer, which in this case is a light blue/offwhite color.  I do know that in Chrome, when you view such an image, that the surrounding area is displayed in black in the browser, so perhaps this is the behavior you're seeing and possibly why it looks different in Photo Viewer.  If I were to view the same image I shared in Chrome, all those light blue areas would appear black, however if I were to view it in Internet Explorer the same areas would appear white, the same as on a blank webpage in IE.

Anyway, the first thing I would suggest would be to open Malwarebytes and click on Scan Now to have it perform a scan for threats on the system.  If anything is found, have it remove them and then allow it to restart your system if prompted to do so (be sure to save anything you were working on before having it restart so you don't lose any work).  If nothing was found then you should be OK.  If however the computer is not behaving normally, you can perform a further check by downloading and running ADWCleaner.  As with Malwarebytes, have it run a scan to check for threats and then allow it to remove any that it finds and restart your system if prompted to do so to complete the removal process.

Please let me know how it goes and if you have any further issues or concerns.

Thanks

It is very unlikely, however if you'd like to be absolutely certain for the sake of your peace of mind you can get the system checked by one of our malware removal specialists.  To do so, please read and follow the instructions found in this topic and then create a new thread including the requested logs and information in the malware removal area by clicking here and one of our malware removal specialists will assist you as soon as one becomes available.

They will be able to determine if there are any remaining nasties or issues in the system and help you to eliminate them and repair the damage if necessary.
