Web Protection Disconnected

Recommended Posts

Using malwarebytes 3.6.1  ...... Windows7 ....... nearly always disconnects mid session. Why?   Can reset it by restarting computer, but I'm unprotected until I notice it.

I upgraded to the above version yesterday, and it still persists as it did before upgrade, and possibly did with the version even before that...... I dont remember.

It certainly doesnt protect me from that Microsoft fake popup that tells me my computer is locked. lol.

Only happens with the Windows 7 laptop...... not with the Malwarebytes on my ancient steam driven Widows XP., which unfortunately doesnt have Ransomeware protection, but also doesnt give me trouble. So what can I do to resolve this?

Regards

GABOR

You mention that its a windows 7 laptop, however the logs you provided state that this is a Windows 10 Pro computer?

That being said, using the same tool, lets see if a clean re-install solves your issues.

Please download the Malwarebytes Support Tool and use it to do a Clean Removal and reinstall of Malwarebytes

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by the User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

  • Place a check-mark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link - do not click Get Started

    mbst-welcome.jpg.2300dd6068ae92db1bdc8f0

  • Click the CLEAN button

    mbst-clean.jpg.f6ef4b074d793ab7a1028ff08|

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to remove Malwarebytes from your computer

  • Upon completion, click OK

  • Follow the onscreen prompts to reboot and reinstall Malwarebytes

If you do not get prompted to reinstall Malwarebytes then download the latest version from the link below.

Just for additional info, I would also highly recommend giving the Malwarebytes browser extension beta a try.  It works similar to the Web Protection component in Malwarebytes Premium, but it also has behavior based blocking for tech support scam sites (those fake Microsoft etc. lockscreen sites that tell you you're infected and try to get you to call for their "tech support") in addition to blocking many ads, tracking servers (to guard your privacy), clickbait, as well as the same malware and PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) domains/IPs Malwarebytes Premium blocks.  It is fully compatible with all protection components in Malwarebytes 3, including Web Protection, and works within your web browser to enhance the protection you have from Malwarebytes 3 if you have it installed, and the extension also works by itself even if you don't have a Malwarebytes Premium license.

The extension is available for Chrome (as well as other Chromium based browsers like SRWare Iron and Vivaldi) as well as Mozilla Firefox.  Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari versions are in development last I heard, however those two versions are not yet available.

You can find out more and get the extension at the following links for each browser:

Chrome
Firefox

Thanks to FIREFOX and others for the reply and emails. Unfortunately the emails went to my Windows XP desktop, not to the affected Windows 7 laptop, so I'll have to transfer them over.

I had to put everything on hold for a while due to some crises (yes, plural, lol )  I should be able to devote myself to the task in another few days.

Regards, GABOR

PS.  Firefox, in your post of the 5th, which I assume was directed at me, you state " You mention that its a windows 7 laptop, however the logs you provided state that this is a Windows 10 Pro computer? " .........

Yes, the problemical contraption is a Toshiba Windows 7 64 Bit laptop, but I didnt send you any logs at all, unless you obtained the logs somehow from your end??

Cheers,

GABOR

My bad on that one, I saw the logs posted by @georgewaller and did not notice they were from him tagging along in your topic (this is why we prefer folks start there own topic to avoid confusion).

That being said, @GABOR when you get a chance please post the logs and we can help you better.
