New and Improved Version available loop

Recommended Posts

My platform is Windows 10 Home.  I currently have Malwarebytes 3.0.5 running on my PC.  I am stuck in a loop.  Several times a day I get a yellow box from Malwarebytes in the bottom right that tells me I have a "Version Update Available" (see attached image: Malware Version Update Available.png).  I have two choices: Download and Install or Close.

When I select Download and Install, I go through all the motions I would expect to download and install the update.  The last question is always:  Update complete, Restart Computer Now or Later.  I restart and then as soon as I log in to Windows I get my Malwarebytes Software Screen that then tells me I still need an update, "A new and improved version of Malwarebytes is available" (see attached: Malware New and improved screen.png).  And when I select Install Now... well depending on if I continue working or reboot, I get will keep getting the Yellow Malwarebytes Version Update Available prompt in the bottom right or on reboot the other screen.

1) Am I fully protected?

2) How to get out of this loop?

3) If this is a software problem when are you going to send the next update to fix it?

This is very annoying.  I have trusted your brand in the past almost explicitly, but this glitch is giving me second thoughts and I just renewed the Premium Package.

Please help!

Hello and Welcome...

Version 3.0.5 is an outdated version.... follow the steps below to get the latest version installed.

Let's try this first.... (It is recommended that you de-activate your Malwarebytes first before un-installing or using the clean removal tool - the tool can only backup the license info for MB3 so if you have MBAM v1 or v2 you have to de-activate it manually)

  1. Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - Malwarebytes mb-clean tool (NOTE: After uninstalling with the mb-claen tool you will be asked to reboot. Once you reboot it will ask you if you want to re-install Malwarebytes, you can select YES (it will download the latest version) or you can download the latest version manually (currently v3.1.2.1733 ) to re-install from HERE)
  2. If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: mb-check-results.zip, FRST.txt, Addition.txt)
  3. NOTE: More info about the latest Malwarebytes 3.1.2 HERE; MB 3 User Guide ONLINE; MB 3 User Guide PDF; MB 3 FAQ: Malwarebytes 3.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank You,

Hello @jim400

An application upgrade is considered a major update hence we let the user on the UI that a new version is available.

An application upgrade would be going from 3.0.5 to 3.1.2 or from 3.0.6 to 3.1.2

The other 2 updates namely Database updates and Component updates are more on the silent side .

Hope that helps.

Thank you.
