Hello @wxx and :welcome:

Please try the following clean removal and reinstall and let me know if that corrects the issue or not.

Please read the following topic and then run the Malwarebytes Clean Removal tool mb-clean

Restart the computer when done and reinstall Malwarebytes 3 with the latest build again.

Open MB and click on scan and click the close button. This is a known issue.

Considering MB scan limitations as in the types of files MB scans for, I would suggest using the VirusTotal tool instead.
