Windows 7 endpoint preparation: File sharing, Printer sharing

Recommended Posts

Dear Malwarebytes,

Regarding Windows 7 endpoint preparation. Do you actually need to enable File sharing and Printer sharing? We successfully deployed MBAE 1.05 without enabling those two. We are in a corporate environment so we don't want to enable those two unless it is 100% necessary. Please let us know whether it is needed and if so why is it needed.

Thank you.

Those two are for Anti-Malware.  Getting people to read guides in the first place is difficult.  Most who install MBAM will also install MBAE, so putting in where it applies and where it doesn't ends up making people stop reading the guide.  If you're just installing MBAE, you're good.

Thank you for your reply. Based on the "Malwarebytes Management Console 1.5 Administrators Guide", page 6 and 7 does not say whether it is for MBAM or MBAE, just in general Managed Client. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thinking about this some more.  Certain ports need to be open on a client ONLY for the install of the clients.  They would get enabled by File Sharing and Printer Sharing, but they could be opened by other means.  Once the installation has completed, they can be closed up.  I will send you a private message as well.
