Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have just completed a scan of my system using malwarebytes and Hijackthis, I appear to have been infected with C:\WINDOWS\system32\gaopdxcounter (Trojan.Agent).

Can some one possibly advise me on full removal of this?

  • Root Admin

Please be patient, the site is very busy and there are only so many qualified volunteers to assist.

STEP 01

Please go into the Control Panel, Add/Remove and for now remove ALL versions of JAVA

Then run this tool to help cleanup any left over Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it back when you reply
Then look for the following Java folders and if found delete them.
    C:\Program Files\Java
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sun\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java

STEP 02

    Download and install CCleaner
  • CCleaner
  • Double-click on the downloaded file "ccsetup217.exe" and install the application.
  • Keep the default installation folder "C:\Program Files\CCleaner"
  • Uncheck "Add CCleaner Yahoo! Toolbar and use CCleaner from your browser"
  • Click finish when done and close ALL PROGRAMS
  • Start the CCleaner program.
  • Click on Registry and Uncheck Registry Integrity so that it does not run (basically the very top, uncheck it)
  • Click on Options - Advanced and Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
  • Click back to Cleaner and under SYSTEM uncheck the Memory Dumps and Windows Log Files
  • Click on Run Cleaner button on the bottom right side of the program.
  • Click OK to any prompts

STEP 03

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt

STEP 04

    Please create a BOOTLOG
  • Restart the computer and press F8 when Windows start booting. This will bring up the startup options.
  • Select "Enable Boot Logging" option and press enter.
  • Windows prompts you to select a Windows Installation (even if there is only one windows installation)
  • This boots windows normally and creates a boot log named ntbtlog.txt and saves it to C:\Windows

Create a NEW folder on your Desktop named: BadFiles

Start Root Repeal and click on the Drivers tab and then click the Scan button.

Then right click on this file: a5uz7i10.SYS and select Dump File

This will bring up a Dump to file dialog box. Browse or select your Desktop where you created the BadFiles folder.

Then type in the name a5uz7i10.SYS and save it in that folder.

Then do the same/similar for this file: c:\docume~1\scott\locals~1\temp\_temp.dat

You will need to scan the FILES TAB. If it does not show then see if you can copy it with Explorer.

If not then let me know and we can use another tool.

You can quit Root Repeal now.

Then zip up that file and upload it to: uploads.malwarebytes.org

I removed their posts and put them as their own NEW posts for help. No one should reply to posts in the HJT forum except the original poster and the helper.

I will review your logs and get back to you later today.

SOrry to interupt one last time. Just wanted to say your advice on this problem was excellent. WHen I ran rootrepeal, the program found a malicious driver in the system32\drivers folder labeled gaopdx(several randomcharacters).sys that was marked in red and which I was able to delete. Thanks for your help

Hi drchemy,

Please don't post in other users posts. We will help you in your post. Removing that file alone may not be the FULL answer. I know it's there and I can have Combofix or other tools blow it out, but I don't want it returning and I want to get the file so we can add it to the program so MBAM can properly remove it for everyone that has the same infection.

Thanks

hmmm... may have changed names or may only be hidden to explorer.

Please try this program and see if you can locate and copy it please. If you need assistance on how let me know.

Please download the following scanning tool. GMER

  • Open the zip file and copy the file
    gmer.exe
    to your Desktop.
  • Double click on
    gmer.exe
    and run it.

  • It may take a minute to load and become available.

  • Do not make any changes. Click on the
    SCAN
button and DO NOT use the computer while it's scanning.

  • Once the scan is done click on the
    SAVE
button and browse to your Desktop and save the file as
    GMER.LOG

  • Zip up the
    GMER.LOG
    file and save it as
    gmerlog.zip
and attach it to your reply post.

  • DO NOT
directly post this log into a reply. You
    MUST
attach it as a .ZIP file.

  • Click OK and quit the GMER program.

Sorry, I was assuming you knew how to run it to scan for the file. My fault.

Okay on the top when you run GMER you should see a tab with 3 > > > arrows. Click on that tab.

Then you should see a Files tab, click that.

Browse to c:\docume~1\scott\locals~1\temp and see if you can locate a _temp.dat or any other .dat file.

Click on the Copy button and in the Save As dialog box browse to the folder on your Desktop named: BadFiles and save it there with the same name.

Then quit GMER. Zip up those files and upload again.

That looks fine. MBAM DB is at 1860

Please run the following and we'll probably be finishing up then unless you're having some other indication of infection still.

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt
