  1. this tool comes from Foundstone a division of McAfee it pretty much just listens for connections and alerts the user when their detected, its defiantly not intended for n00bees or for just anyone to be using as Running this program may in fact attract more attention to your computer from people remotely scanning for vulnerabilities due to it appearing as a collection of open ports. good for luring bad guys into a trap tho File name: attacker.exe Submission date: 2011-07-31 07:43:02 (UTC) First seen: 2006-08-08 13:52:16 Last seen : 2011-07-31 07:43:02 Result: 28/ 43 (65.1% MD5: 5c70d68a55e8085dab11e393ad997879 http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=acbf2b23fbfa329d1fe2935ba7c9c1e002e192a371d35fac6c805357df077a80-1312098182

  8. I'm looking for a Bios update for a Dell Dimension 8200, the current Bios is A09 and by the looks of it so far it looks like that was the last one made available by Dell for the 8200 series. Am I missing it somewhere I can't find a reset to defaults option in the current Bios so if I flash it with the same Bios currently installed will it reset the defaults. Messing with the bios scares the hell out of me Dell Dimension 8200 service tag FJMC321 no OS currently installed I'm planning on reinstalling Linux on it

  12. Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware here Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates. Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
  13. all that is fine and dandy ( a bit of overkill as darksider pointed out ) but if windows itself isn't kept up to date you might as well not bother, your AV and that nice fancy Firefox browser dected out with all those adons isn't going to stop a hacker that's exploiting a bug in the OS itself. he's right this has gotten way off topic if you need further help with anything please start your own topic and someone will assist you

  17. Microsoft is not going to "sneak into your system" that's kinda silly you do relize that by not installing the impotant & critical updates your doing your computer more harm than good. those updates patch flaws in the system that are vulnerable to exploitation by hackers. other updates fix compatibillity or performance issues and such, therefore making the computer more stable & reliable. if you havn't updated to service pack 3 your computer is no longer supported and your wide open for attack since service packs are large cumative updates, if your using IE6 your also in danger that thing is no longer supported and full of unpatched vulnerbillities not kepping your OS and the software installed on it up to date is extreamly dangerous, you might as well hang a sign around your neck and tell every hacker out there "here I am hack me"
  18. Happy late birthday my friend hope it was a good one
  19. oh that emachine was a EL 1200-06w it was the first one and will be the last one I ever buy.
  20. thanks for the additional info guys I installed Windows Xp on my seconary HD on the Dell last night ( can't believe I corruped a perfectly good Linux by installing Windows beside it ) Oh well just checking in, got to let sp3 install looks like it might be a few more days before I can go hunting for malware again.
  21. yep that's what I need thanks Firefox that's not a bad price I was looking at one at Tiger Direct decision time install Windows on my Dell Dimension beside my Linux ?
  22. thanks guys I don't think its worth replacing the motherboard, or performing any upgrade its a piece of junk. it fried the router, and my emachine but two old Dell dimensions survived it just had to fry my main box with my VM's, all my notes, and reference material what a tragedy so depressing need a converter for sata to the old 80 pin connectors to see if the data on the hardrive is still intact
  23. hey guys, I had lightning strike a transformer on the pole right outside here, didn't have power all day now its back on one of my pc's looks like it may be fried, it also fried my router does anyone have any ideals before I give up on it. It was plugged into a surge protector the power went off and came back on it was booting back up when the power went off again, when I first plugged it back in it was completely dead after tinkering with it for a minute I got the power to come on ... sorta the fan runs & the cd tray ejects and it sounds like the harddrive is running but it won't boot there is no VGA signal going to the any monitor there is no beep (that's usual during bootup), there isn't any response if you push the power button, the led light next to the power button is out, I don't smell or see anything burnt we've tried different monitors, unplugging the power supply to the motherboard for a few, unplugging the hardrive, swapping out ram, leaving the dvd drive unhooked then trying to boot, took out battery for cmos put it back in, took out processor put it back in, switching psu from 115 to 230, unplugging the fan, the paper clip trick, CPR I'm stumped
