MBAM slow in safe mode

Recommended Posts

Can someone tell me why MBAM is running so slow in safe mode? I thought it would run faster because less programs running . Am I missing something? I always ran it in normal mode and it usually takes about an hour. In safe mode, it had already taken an hour to scan only 80000 files out of what I know will be 700000 files. At that rate, this will take approx. 9 hours! I aborted and came here to ask for help. I want to scan in safe mode to be sure nothings hiding. I recently got a windows security center warning saying that I had a trojan. Never saw a warning like this before. So I want to scan to be sure. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to Malwarebytes! :welcome:Quote: "I recently got a windows security center warning saying that I had a trojan. Never saw a warning like this before. So I want to scan to be sure. Any suggestions?" There are all sorts of new trojans, worms, & virus infections comming out each day....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
  • One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.
  • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version

NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here.

Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible.

I appreciate your suggestions for malware removal and will follow them. However, the main reason for this post on this forum was to find out if MBAM normally runs extremely slow in safe mode or if this was an indication of another problem. I have not used MBAM for long and was curious if I should be trying to scan in safe mode or not. Could you advise me here? Thanks.

Hi -

If you have an infection this will cause many programs to operate at abnormal speeds -

The other item is that Malwarebytes is not designed to remove all problems in safe mode - It will generate a log but not always remove all items -

This is one reason that yardbird has picked up that you seem to still have an infection -

Thank You -

Couple Things FYI

1. Mbam is designed to run in normal mode. It works better if it catches the things running in memory.

2. Mbam will run slower in safe mode do to the technology we use and depend on in windows. A lot of the tech is disabled in safe mode. If you must run in safe mode because Mbam won't start Run a Full scan and not a Quick scan. A quick scan will miss some things in safe mode because they may not be in memory.

I Hope that explains things.
