Hi all, Windows 7 64bit problem.

My imageres.dll in the system32 folder is corrupt. My system boots but the desktop is blank: courser, windows logo works and I only have options to restart and shut down. I can't do a system restore, it is turned off. System repair only fixes the boot and there isn't any errors there. Also I tried to do a sfc /scannow but it says pending and will scan when system re-boots...it doesn't work. Safe mode is broken too. :|

Is there anyway I can just copy the corrupt imageres.dll from the disk and move it to the system32 folder? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi -

You could try running a FULL disk check on the drive and see if that helps.

This is for Vistax64 but the same method should be valid for Windows 7

How to Run Check Disk at Startup in Vista

Basically you need to start an Administrative/Elevated DOS prompt and the run

CHKDSK C: /R

Tell it yes to run it on reboot and then reboot and let it check the drive.

My imageres.dll in the system32 folder is corrupt

This item controls the screen images you seem to be missing -

Since I added the Check Disk item and you can not do SFC /Scannow then Firefox may be on it with another infection ??

I know you had a session with Blade recently but the experts May have missed an item - I would re post and get this item restored or checked again -

I don't think it's malware related. This happened right after I made some gui customizations with a program called Tuneup Utilities that came bundled with Avira anti-virus ( it was a buy 2 for the price of 1 deal ). Anyway, I was finally able to boot into the command prompt to do a sfc scan and its fixed. Phew...

Thanks again for the suggestions Firefox and noknojon.
