So both, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender seem to use the same process name while running in the background. Are those programs designed to use the same name or what?

It was something like MpMs... or something :/

And does it cause some kind of errors when you use both of them(I don't)?

Windows Defender is actually a component of MSE, they are very similar programs under the surface. MSE also contains all the definitions that Windows Defender does, so if you have MSE installed you should have Windows Defender disabled or uninstalled (MSE will automatically disable Windows Defender on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and I believe it uninstalls it on XP or prompts you to do so).

I would not run Windows Defender on Windows XP Home Edition as it seems to use a lot of system resources.

I do not run it on my XP Pro system nor would I run it on my friend's XP Home system.

Windows Defender on Vista and Windows 7 is a different application all together.
