MBAM Errors "0" and "440"

Malwarebytes will not open, but instead gives me two error messages, the first window being titled "vbAccelerator SGrid II Control" with the message "runtime error '0'" and the second being a window titled "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" with the message "runtime error '440' automation error". i uninstalled Malwarebytes and reinstalled it and i got the same two error messages at the end of the installation process, and again when i tried to open it. it still wouldn't open, so i followed the instructions on this page: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10138. it still gave me the same errors and would not open. So i posted this on the Malwarebytes malware removal forum and they helped me clean my computer of a backdoor trojan, but i still am getting the two errors just like before, so the moderator suggested I post my problem again here. I'd really love to use MBAM, as i have it on another computer and it works great. Please help!

Greetings ;)

Please do the following to see if it fixes the error:

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"

  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file MBAM Fix.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it on XP. For Vista please right click on it and choose Run As Administrator
  • Click OK to each of the 3 dialog boxes that should show a success message for each file registered
  • If you get an error that REGSVR32 "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file", then ensure that the file REGSVR32.EXE exists in the %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32 folder. If it's not found there you can copy if from another Computer running the same operating system and service pack level.

If that doesn't fix it then please download and install the Microsoft Visual Basic Common Controls from here to see if it helps.

If none of the above helps the situation then please follow the instructions in item #7 of the FAQ located here.

Please let me know if any of the above corrects the problem for you, and if so, which one did the trick.

Thanks ;)

Hello , and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

In that case it is quite possible that you have an infection that is preventing the installation. Please review and follow the directions below.

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

You certainly should follow AdvancedSetup's instructions, but first please try the following and if it doesn't work, then proceed with his recommendations:

Step 1: Reset dll and ocx Files

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    @echo off
    regsvr32 /u /s "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 /u /s "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 /u /s "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 "%programfiles%\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"
    del /f /q %0

  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file register.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.

Test to see if that fixes the problem and if not, continue on to the next step:

Step 2: Reset Permissions

Reset Default Permissions:

  • Please download ResetDefaultPerms by AdvancedSetup from here and save it to your desktop
  • Close any open programs and save anything you were working on
  • Double click on restoredefaultperms.exe to run it
  • Once it completes it will restart your computer
