Question is ... I have a lot of "System Data" in my storage (over 200 GB) that seems unusual.

I have over 270 GB of System Data on my work machine, and around 191 GB on my personal machine. This is not unusual, and I would not recommend using any kind of "cleaning" app to remove that kind of data, especially System Data.

One of the most common things that can cause the system data to grow is local snapshots for Time Machine. macOS will manage those for you and will remove them as needed when disk space gets low. You can also help to clear some of those snapshots by doing regular Time Machine backups to an external disk.
