Malwarebytes to Expire???

Recommended Posts

I purchased Malwarebytes Lifetime license on May 28, 2013. I have used it on my laptops only. The original laptop is destroyed because of its age, but not before I deactivated the license.

I have since purchased a new laptop about 1 1/2 year ago and installed the program w/o issues. Due to laptop misbehavior, I decided to do a Windows re-install of Win 11 23H2, and deactivated the license before doing so. Re-installation was a bit difficult, but the program installed and my account  shows lifetime license, with no expiration. However, I keep getting email messages advising of expiration.

I'm not sure what to believe. I have read through the material about the lifetime licenses and I don't see that I have violated the end user agreement.

My 2nd question is this. My spouse recently passed away and he had a lifetime license on his PC. It has been destroyed, but not before  /deactivating his copy. Can that copy of the program be used on another PC?

I have all proofs of purchase and all the cards with ID#'s and keys. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

I'd have see see the Full Headers of the email to make a full judgement but, we have been seeing numerous posts and submissions of people getting spam email with FakeAlerts and Renewal notices not by Malwarebytes but in the name of Malwarebytes.

I am also seeing ads pushing fake Malwarebytes License Renewal advertisements on AOL and Yahoo Webmail.

Are both/all keys listed in your my.malwarebytes.com account?

I went into my account and I see premium with no expiration, but I don't see any devices listed. Should I add all the Id's and keys I have on the cards that came with the software. The account shows one device and nothing else. Frankly, I didn't know that page existed. I always deactivated/activated with no issues at all. I really appreciate your help.

Yes. The account is needed to activate Malwarebytes now.  The current version does not activate with an ID and Key.

So, I have a total of 3 copies, lifetime. One is on my tower and that is working as a lifetime subscription and has done so since I bought it. The second is on my laptop that supposedly is going to expire and the third was on my spouse's PC and that one has been deactivated. I'm confused. Just what is my account supposed to show? My tower has worked forever as a liftetime, no expire license.

My laptop...how do I fix that if it's fixable? So, am I supposed to see 3 lifetime licenses somewhere? Maybe I'm making this more complicated then it needs to be. TY

You should have 3 listings in the subscriptions section. Click the 3 dots to see the details of each one.

Porthos, I looked where  you showed me. My laptop shows Jan 2022 which is when I purchased the laptop and it must have been when I installed the software. My tower doesn't show, but it's working as it should, but I haven't had to reinstall the software. My husband's PC dowsn't count I suppose because the program was deactivated before it's hard drive was destroyed and the PC junked.

Do I have to do anything about the tower that has been working as premium/lifetime for as along as I've owned that PC, 5 years or so. Thanks for your patience.

You need to add the missing licenses to the account.

If you purchased your product from a physical retail store or another website, we recommend you create a Malwarebytes account login and register your license. Registering your license allows you to manage your subscription and devices, and deactivate your license from a device.

To register your license key, complete the following steps.

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Click SubscriptionsAll.svg in the sidebar to go to the Subscriptions page.
  3. On the Subscriptions page, scroll to the bottom of the list of your current subscriptions.
  4. Click Link an existing subscription.
  5. In the Register a license pop-up window, enter your license key exactly as provided.
    • Note: If your subscription came with a License ID, click the check box, then enter your License ID.
  6. Click Register to add the license key to your account.
