Cannot remove MalwareBytes completely and RTProtectionDaemon is eating CPU

Recommended Posts

So the last few days the RTProtectionDaemon process has been going crazy, regularly using between 50%-100% of my cpu.

I did look around online for ideas and eventually decided to uninstall MBAM completely. I also deleted the launch agents and all trace files related to the app.

The RTProtectionDaemon still continues to run and is driving me crazy. (Yes I have restarted the machine).

I even downloaded the official uninstall app and it didn't do anything.

Can someone help here. Im running the latest Big Sur on an Imac 2019.

Thanks.

Hello @didot and :welcome:

With significant frequency, the most successful solution for high CPU percentage numbers, involving the RTProtection Daemon, is to carefully follow the most recent Uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac procedure, followed by a re-installation of the most recent release version.

Note well: To avoid later re-activation complications, please deactivate your app's license before attempting any uninstall of the Malwarebytes for Mac premium product.  If the premium license was not deactivated prior to uninstall attempts, you will likely need to access your My Account records through the Manage your subscriptions in My Account procedure, and deactivate the license there.

Please reply to this topic with your progress and/or if additional assistance is required.

Thank you.
