  1. Hi there, Is there any ability coming or presently in Malwarebytes for MAC that allows custom scanning of other disks, such as an external drive or other internal drive? This would benefit greatly. Consider it feedback if it's not there!
  2. My 1-year old Mac Air laptop was massively hacked on 3/28/19. I’ve figured out how it happened and it disguised itself as a source for published medical papers. It made its debut by shutting my laptop down and when I restarted it I couldn’t use google as my safari search engine despite it showing in system preferences. All searches were directed to Yahoo! and the sites there weren’t authentic. I couldn’t even get on Apple support. I believe the malware may have gotten in through my gmail as that account was seriously affected. The more I tried to figure out what was going on by going by searching system information the more I lost access to them. Eventually my entire interface changed - it looked more like a bad reproduction of the real interface. I called apple support and they connected with my screen. We downloaded a virus detector which showed nothing but I could tell it was still there because the margins on any site were too large I’m not at all a technical person but I was driven to figure this out. I used every system investigation I could and found out my network was being entirely redirected; commands were being blocked; data was being accessed and large and continuous data packets were being sent even though my computer wasn’t on or another time while I was completely off line. I found 2 mysterious “printers” and think those were involved in redirecting my network. Going into logs I could see a lot of commands the malware set up which were very disquieting. I saw instructions related to the camera and microphone, commands to circumvent the virus scanner, activating a control to get into computer while shut off and rerouting my network. I somehow found a malicious certificate and traced it to root systems. I called in our tech person and she downloaded Malwarebytes and ran every choice but it too showed nothing She wasn’t interested in the information I’d found and trusted that the virus scan was correct She rebooted our internet and we created all new names and passwords and it seemed like it worked for about 4 days but then it showed up again The malware changed so many things especially related to keychains and passwords were being rejected Finally I sent my laptop out and it was download on an external drive Had the whole operating system deleted and downloaded it again But I’m still really concerned I’m still vulnerable and I’ll admit I’ve become extremely paranoid Could the data reloaded from the backup contain malware? I’d appreciate any input on this This malware sounds very like one i saw on this blog but it seems more advanced by protecting itself from discovery especially by deep virus scanners I documented a lot of data I found including taking screenshots with my phone If anyone is interested in that or name of site where I made that fateful download let me know Side note: My iPhone was also affected likely through gmail. My photos were being accessed as well as contacts I got locked out, had it deleted but couldn’t reactivate because my gmail was disabled.
  3. My wife's MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running Yosemite (10.10.5) had its Chrome browser hijacked by "Search Encrypt" 3 days ago. I spent the evening following online recommendations: 1) removing the offending extension or app - NONE FOUND 2) within Chrome "Restore settings to their original defaults" - DIDN'T WORK 3) Remove Chrome and various files & pref's from Library; 3A) Downloaded and ran Malwarebytes - Didn't find anything 3B) and then download and do fresh install of Chrome. - This worked - UNTIL she re-synced bookmarks, etc from her Google account. Chrome was immediately re-hijacked as before. 4) For now, I've re-deleted Chrome, and she's using Safari, though it is greatly impeding her normal work flow in her school classroom. SO... I need help! I assume that Search Encrypt has hidden something in what's synced to her Google account, and it may be synced into her Android phone also, though she hasn't mentioned any problems there yet. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
  4. Have begun roll out of EP and IR to our ~150 machines to varying degrees of success. Issue we are having is none of our Mac endpoints are reporting to the Cloud Console. All I see is the attached error. I currently have 5 Macs registered but the plan is to roll that out to our 20+ machines. All of the Macs are in their own group with their own policy that has IR turned on and EP turned off. On the client side I have tried turning the Firewall on and off on. I also understand from doing some research that the logs that might tell me what is wrong are located here /Library/Application Support/Malwarebytes/NebulaAgent/Logs Such a folder does not exist. On the client machine there is only "Malwarebytes Endpoint Agent" folder located within "Malwarebytes" folder. This folder does contain a Logs folder however.
  5. I recently noticed that with the latest update of Malwarebytes for Mac(Version 3.5.27) the default monthly scan is no longer active as it was intended to be for free users. I saw it first happen on my MacBook and when i upgraded Malwarebytes on my iMac i was able to confirm that the 'Default Scan' in the "Scheduled Scans" is not activated by default... I assume this is this either intended behavior or a glitch with the latest update that need a quick patch, as it happened on two of my mac devices... but i do believe that the free users of Malwarebytes are allowed to use a free monthly scheduled scan by default with only the option to change the day/time, according to the user guide. Is this no longer the case?
  6. After being prompted to download the latest version I click through, the download starts and zips through the progress bar, then ends and the message says, "Unable to Download, check your Internet connection." My connection is fine, a 75/75 FIOS.
  7. I can't get updates to work. Docs say permit three URLs in firewall. Firewall only lets me select "malwarebyes" app but not the three required URLs (see screenshot)
  8. Hi - Even after uninstalling the software, I can't get the Malware bites icon out of my menu bar on my macbook (see attachment). I also get frequent software update reminders but I installed the software several weeks ago. I've tried restarting my computer, looking at what programs have permission to start when I login, and also clicking the icon and going to 'settings'. When I click settings, I get a macbook notification "There is no application set to open the URL com.malwarebytes.mbam://settings" Thank you in advance for your help!
  9. Hi, I have downloaded OSX Sierra (10.12.6) yesterday from Hackintosh website, since I couldn't download it from the App Store. The file was 5.03GB. The installation went smoothly, installer and everything looked legit. When it finished I scanned the system with Malwarebytes. When scanning I noticed it's going through some weird items, and I don't know if they are on my computer or is Malwarebytes just looking for them on the system? It only goes through those files, nothing else (like documents etc.). List of items: Trojan.SteamStealer.CSGO Adware.OperatorMac Adware.Crossrider Adware.Mindspark Adware. The Player Adware.Kilim Adware.IronCore Adware.SnapDo Adware.Linkury Adware.MixPlugin Adware.Aqualious Adware.OneSearch Adware.VNPapps Adware.ExtensionsSystems Adware.Vidx/MacVX Adware.MySearch Adware.PremierOpinion Adware.Conduit Adware.FairyTale PUP.logKext Keylogger PUP.Jawego PUP.Hotger PUP.PCVARK PUP.NikoffSecurity PUP.WebWatcher PUP.MacRemover PUP.JDI PUP.Aobo Keylogger PUP.Award Keylogger PUP.Optional.Crossrider There were few other items, but it passed too fast for me to take the names. Also, I've performed full system scan using Avast, and BitDefender, but nothing came up. Should I wipe off everything of the disk, and get clean iOS, or is the one I'm using safe? Thanks
  10. Hi! So, I'm only curious about this and just wanted to make sure it was normal to settle my nerves. Everyone few hours, I do a scan, since I'm on the free malwarebytes. I've noticed that the scan usually takes 10-15 seconds and it seems a bit too fast to me, but that could just be how it is. Someone please get back to me soon to soothe my rising nerves.
  11. How to scan specific folder on MAC? I have seen some treats saying I need to go to settings and select the option. However, I have no such option in my settings.
  12. Hi! So, my malwarebytes was just updated to a new version, but I cannot find anything online about this version, so is it new or a glitch. The version is 3.3.22. I am also on the free one as I am unable to get the premium quite yet. After this update, instead of free, I got trial, which seemed quite weird to me. I've shut down my laptop and turned it back on and it's still the same. Does anyone else have this version? I have a panic and paranoia disorder, hence why I'm asking and trying to stay calm.
  13. "Search for the files or folders which contains the name of target app or the vendor in the following locations and delete the matched items: /Library, /Library/Caches, /Library/Preferences, /Library/Application Support, /Library/LaunchAgents, /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/PreferencePanes, /Library/StartupItems" It works !
  14. Good day, Some of our clients have come across a problem on our website, please can you clean all the malware off of www.acdc.co.za. Kind Regards, Janine
  15. Hi there Every time I open the malwarebytes download the system proceeds to scan it, but I keep getting this error message: “Malwarebytes-Mac-3.2.36.1163.pkg” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash. If anyone has advice it would be much appreciated. I've tried downloading several times with no success. Best M
  16. Hello, So ive been furiously researching and trying to get rid of some malware (Ad by Advertise) i noticed on my Mac and I can't get rid of it. I downloaded malwarebytes and got zero hits at all. downloaded another program Antivirus Zap from app store and it found 3 items, deleted them all, and adware still there. I then noticed that if I opened chrome on a different chrome user account i had no adware at all and i was fine. I tested this further and opened a fresh windows server and downloaded chrome and then signed into my chrome account and WALA got adware. So basically I know for a fact 10/10 that its associated to my google chrome account. I even deleted every none essential chrome extension. The only ones left are from the chrome webstore which I assume to be safe (please correct me if this is an incorrect assumption). Which the exception of weird extensions I don't even know how malware would go about linking to a chrome account like that, and further more I have no clue how to delete or address it. Please help. Any advice would be fantastic. Even as i type this, random words on the page have been turned into adware links.
  17. Hello, I recently purchased a 3 seat premium license to Malware bytes. I have now added (1) Windows and (2) MAC computers. On my account subscriptions page, I only see the one Windows computer listed. The two MAC computers are MIA. As far as I can tell, the MAC computers installed the application correctly and say full premium after my key was activated. Is this a glitch? Are my MAC clients actually working? (no indication that it isn't). Am I able to use my key on as many MAC's as I want seeing that none ever show up on my account? (I wouldn't, but this seems like a huge flaw). Lastly, is there any way to validate the MAC client is actually working as intended? I know Windows clients can run an executable to verify, but I have found nothing on the MAC side. I have a MAC suspected of having ransomware, but when Malwarebytes runs, it finds nothing. Thanks!
  18. I sent this in as a question to Malwarebytes support three days ago, but no one has answered. I want to know if Malwarebytes for Mac guards against ransomware. Does it?
  19. Hi, I currently have a valid license for malwarebytes for mac 3.0 and wanted to know if just having malwarebytes for mac 3.0 premium is enough to take care of all the security needs of a mac, or should i look for other antivirus to complement ? Does malwarebytes protect against phishing, malware url links and infected webpages or is it just an antivirus for mac , does it also include a firewall component?
  20. Where are the logs for MBAM for Mac stored? (the file path/directly location)
  21. The proper methods for uninstalling Malwarebytes for Mac can be found here: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1928 If you have tried to remove the software by dragging the Malwarebytes application to the trash, that is not the proper way to remove it. In that case, you will be unable to access the Uninstall item in the application to remove the software properly in recent versions of Malwarebytes for Mac. In such a case, you can do one of two things: 1) Reinstall Malwarebytes for Mac (re-download from the following link, if necessary), then uninstall by following the directions at the link above. https://malwarebytes.com/mac-download 2) Download and run the following AppleScript applet, which will uninstall the software. https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mac_uninstall_script/ In the future, be aware that any software that requires an installer will also need to be properly uninstalled. In a very few cases, software may self-uninstall if you drag the application to the trash, but in most cases you should check the documentation and/or website for the software in question, and use the proper uninstall method recommended by the developer of the software. Do not use generic app "removers," "cleaners," "zappers," etc. Such programs do not actually remove the software the correct way, and often either leave components behind or, worse, remove things that shouldn't have been removed. Only the developer of the software knows what needs to be removed and how to properly remove it all. The exception to the rule, of course, is adware and other scam or junk software, where the developer doesn't necessarily want you removing the software. You can use Malwarebytes for Mac to help remove such programs.
  22. A bunch of weird things is happening: Restarting at random points Also, now I noticed a way to get passed it, by clicking on the icon on macos but now it is not working. Mail seems weird with notifications fading I am on version macos 10.12.6
  23. Hi All,I am having an issue where when I do a google search, it redirects to yahoo search, but shows as search.yahoo wajam. I cannot figure out how to remove this. I tried Malwarebytes and it is not picking it up. I tried chrome extensions and wajam is not listed. I removed all extensions and even removed chrome and tried to reinstall. It only affects google search. Anything I can do. This happens on all browsers. I am assuming it is spyware? I have looked at many wajam removal sites, but I do not have anything on my mac that has wajam. Here are some screenshots after google searching the word "test". Then someone suggesting altering my DNS which I tried too. Malwarebytes comes up clean. Please see what a google search for the word test redirects to. It completely changes to wajam yahoo. I do not have any wajam on my computer. Thanks,Matt
  24. This morning my wife's Firefox for Mac 10.9 kept redirecting to hmapsanddirections.co instead of Google when she opened a new tab. She does not recall clicking on anything suspicious or opening a file. Both Intego Virus Barrier and Malwarebytes show nothing. Only thing we could do was to refresh Firefox. What concerns me is that no virus program spotted it in real time or afterward and doing a Google search just results in lots of no-name, possibly malicious, sites. None of the major virus / security companies have any entries on this. Can someone provide more information so we can ensure her system is clean? Thanks!
  25. I have the same problem indicated here, When I run ` find . -name "$1" 2>&1 | grep -v 'Permission denied' ` in the terminal it seem to keep getting hits in this folder: " Library/Application Support/Firefox/profiles". I attached the files from this directory. Redirect domain was hitcpm.com. Searching that on the net gets you references to hitcpm.com/watch?key virus. Anyone have any experience with this on mac? I attached Thank you. pkcs11.txt LICENSE.txt revocations.txt SiteSecurityServiceState.txt pkcs11.txt LICENSE.txt revocations.txt SiteSecurityServiceState.txt
