Blocked site 123.123.123.123

Recommended Posts

I've just resumed using Malwarebytes after the compatibility problems with Kaspersky Internet Security 2018 being solved by updating to KIS 2019).

I'm now seeing the occasional RiskWare report blocking IP Address: 123.123.123.123. even with my PC at idle and no browsers open.

In addition to the scan with MWB which found nothing I've also had Kaspersky and HitmanPro scan my system without finding anything.

Can you help me to find what's on my PC trying to contact that blocked site please?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malware Removal for Windows Help forum. Being infected is not fun and can be very frustrating to resolve, but don't worry because we have a team of experts here help you!!

Note: Please be patient. When the site is busy it can take up to 48 hours before a malware removal helper can assist you. If no one has replied to your new topic after 48 hours please contact a Moderator or Administrator to let them know.

First, if you haven't done so, please run a Threat Scan with the latest version of Malwarebytes. This may resolve your malware infection issue without the need for additional support. Click "Reveal Hidden Contents" below for details:

Spoiler

Malwarebytes can detect and remove most malware with no further actions required for free.

If you do not have Malwarebytes, please download it here and install. Be sure to post back the log as shown below.

  4. Click Start Scan

Next, if you're still experiencing issues after running Malwarebytes, then technical logs will be required to assist you. Click "Reveal Hidden Contents" below and follow the instructions to run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool:

Spoiler

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make a recovery difficult.

Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool here and save it to your desktop. Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  1. Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
  2. Press the Scan button.

  3. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  4. The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've run it before it may not and you may need to select it manually.

Finally, attach the Malwarebytes Threat Scan, FRST.txt and Additional.txt logs to your reply. Before submitting your reply, be sure to enable "Notify me of replies" like so: notify me.jpeg

Please Note the Following:

  • One of our expert helpers will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Refrain from making any further changes to your computer (such as Install/Uninstall programs, using special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.
  • Do not 'bump' or add a reply to your topic once it is started. Topics which appear to have replies are considered to have a helper assisting them and may be overlooked, resulting in a longer waiting period for help
  • If you're using Peer 2 Peer software such as uTorrent or similar, please completely disable it from running while being assisted here.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • 2 weeks later...

I just had this pop up for the first time, just after I booted up my computer and connected to a network. The text website addresses that my computer was trying to contact, according to the pop up, were actually addresses associated with the university for which I work (wpad.yale.edu, as one example). However, I am connecting through a hotel wifi where I just checked in. I suspect that something about the particular wifi network was causing a redirect to a different IP address. But of course, I'm no expert on this.

am going to try to reboot and connect through my wifi hotspot on my phone to see if problem recurs. I suspect it will not.

I am having a very similar problem.

My primary AV program is Norton, and I have installed Malwarebytes along side of it.

Norton is not issuing any warnings, but I am receiving the same messages from Malwarebytes as Keverne.

My warnings are being issued for multiple programs:  FireFox, Norton, svchost, etc....

They are all outbound connections

Both norton and malwarebytes report no issues with the computer on a full-scan.

The main problem here is that I don't know what's issuing the RiskWare report because there's no reference to 'File' in either the popup or in the report.Ashampoo_Snap_2018_05.30_07h38m49s_001_.png.08ad0da33ee7a0d778afcb7142b4abf7.pngAshampoo_Snap_2018_06.04_20h34m59s_001_.png.34bdceb3eb7e448274b38f65962e6312.png

I think Drdas is on to something....................

When I am using my iPhone as a hotspot I get ZERO notifications.

Using the hotel WiFi where I'm currently staying ... I get a flood of warnings................

I'm wondering if this is a "false positive"

I am definitely  only getting these alerts on one of the networks I am currently using................

This particular network has some other screwy features....

e.g. my VPN program can not create a tunnel, and some secure connections via browser can not be established .....

Can someone from MalwareBytes jump in?

Confirmed when I moved back home to problem stopped. Suspect it is related to the need for the hotel wifi to authenticate your computer when you connect. You know when you initially connect and your browser opens to the login screen so you can accept their terms and login before you get access to the extranet? I suspect that your background programs that attempt to call in before you have accepted the hotels terms are redirected to this 123 address. I don't think it's malicious anymore, but could be wrong. #stillnotanexpert

drdas:

I like that theory!

I was hoping someone from the the official support team would jump in on the thread but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen.....

Does someone need to open a formal ticket?

(I would, but at this point I'm on a 2-week trial  ?
