Chromebook

Hi, 

I use premium malwarebytes on my windows 10 PC and think it's great. My mother just recently got hold of a chromebook and it already had malwarebytes installed on it with the free premium trial active. 

But It looks different to my copy on my pc. I am wondering if the chromebook version is different in appearance than the widnows version or if I have a dodgy copy installed.

 

Also do chromebooks really require real time scanning?

 

If so I might actually buy a years protection.

In my opinion, yes...Even tho ChromeOS has internal malware protection, this doesn''t mean its totally 100% safe. When there's attempts of 'Man in the middle malware' (MITM), this can create severe issues. Such as Hijacking when browsing the internet. The most opportuned time comes when a web page might be stuck until the user clicks the malvert image and then cause disarray with Browser and JS attempts on web exploiting, such as watching your browsing and keystrokes on sensitive web sites. Phishing attempts as well. Alot of this is by the user unknowingly supplying the needed 2nd half through complying, in order to make it all succeed.

Yes, the Chrome version is different from the Windows version, and yes, it's a good idea to have real-time protection in ChromeOS (as mentioned above by plb4333).  As ChromeOS as well as the Chrome browser become more popular and as mobile devices like tablets and smart phones take the place of PCs more and more, the bad guys who write malware have begun to target these non-PC/non-Windows devices more and more.  The same is true for iOS due in large part to the popularity of the iPhone and other Apple devices, resulting in both Apple and Google having to do far more frequent security updates than they used to, much like what Microsoft does today for its software.

Exploits, Trojans, keyloggers, adware, spyware, hijackers, scams, phishing and pretty much all other forms of attack and malware are now targeting these non-Windows/non-PC devices more than ever before, so it's a good idea to use some kind of protection software to help you stay safe.  Such devices and operating systems aren't immune any more (not that they ever were, but they definitely weren't targeted nearly as often as they are today).

I suppose it's worth upgrading it to premium then.

 

I have to say, I do not like the interface for the chrome version. I wish it looked more like the windows version I am familiar with. But as long as it does the same thing I don't mind.
