Stuart09 Posted August 2, 2017 ID:1148499 Share Posted August 2, 2017 A few days ago I ran a scan and it found what it called Rootkit.Agent in the location C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINDOWS and that is all that it told me. It was just a folder named Windows. My PC has not been acting strangely, and it quarantined the threat with no trouble and then I deleted it. I ran a full custom scan with rootkits turned on and it found nothing. I ran Malwarebytes anti-rootkit and it also found nothing. Is my computer safe? Here's my log: -Log Details- Scan Date: 7/31/17 Scan Time: 12:26 AM Log File: Administrator: Yes -Software Information- Version: 3.1.2.1733 Components Version: 1.0.160 Update Package Version: 1.0.2468 License: Free -System Information- OS: Windows 10 (Build 15063.483) CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: DESKTOP\Stuart -Scan Summary- Scan Type: Threat Scan Result: Completed Objects Scanned: 376357 Threats Detected: 1 Threats Quarantined: 1 Time Elapsed: 1 min, 36 sec -Scan Options- Memory: Enabled Startup: Enabled Filesystem: Enabled Archives: Enabled Rootkits: Disabled Heuristics: Enabled PUP: Enabled PUM: Enabled -Scan Details- Process: 0 (No malicious items detected) Module: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Key: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Value: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Data: 0 (No malicious items detected) Data Stream: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folder: 0 (No malicious items detected) File: 1 Rootkit.Agent, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WINDOWS, Quarantined, [1273], [205059],1.0.2468 Physical Sector: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end)
Valinorum Posted August 2, 2017 ID:1148524 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Please, run a scan with MBAM and see if it detects anything. I am inclined to believe that your PC is clean but peruse this thread and attach the logs for further investigation.

I have attached the two requested logs. FRST.txt Addition.txt
Valinorum Posted August 2, 2017 ID:1148534 Share Posted August 2, 2017 Log looks okay. Monitor it for a day and see if you face any issue. If everything is okay, report me here, and I will close the thread as resolved.

But I have a question as to what Rootkit.Agent actually could be? I tried googling it but could not find anyone else that detected the same thing. Valinorum Posted August 2, 2017 ID:1148540 Share Posted August 2, 2017 A rootkit is a malicious piece of program that enables unauthorized access to a PC. Think of it something getting access to areas and network of your PC that it should not have. Rootkit.Agents typically a carrier of such programs.
