pault Posted March 28, 2017 ID:1112951 Share Posted March 28, 2017 After torrenting sony vegas pro I got some virusses which trend micro blocked however some of them passed it. I did a factory reset which didn't help. As far as I can see I am being connected to advertising sites in the left bottom of my screen. There might be more junk, but I'm not sure how to tell. I've done scans with malwarebytes, trend micro and hitmanpro. Nothing but the tracking cookies that I keep getting.
Aura Posted March 28, 2017 ID:1112958 Share Posted March 28, 2017 Hi pault Pretty much every websites out there uses advertising/tracking in some way, so these connections are normal. Which web browser are you using? Are you using an adblocker? Are you actually getting pop-up ads, or simply ads that opens on the website?
pault Posted March 28, 2017 Author ID:1112964 Share Posted March 28, 2017 I was using adblocker in chrome, adblocker however has not been reinstalled yet. Is it really normal for the browser to connect to a bunch of ...doubleclick.net.. and other odd sites? Also I have a bunch of duplicate processes running in my task manager even though this is a clean install.
Aura Posted March 28, 2017 ID:1112967 Share Posted March 28, 2017 It is really hard to see processes that way. Follow the instructions in the thread below, run FRST and provide me the two logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt). https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/ DoubleClick is part of Google's portfolio, so yes, it is normal. https://www.doubleclickbygoogle.com/
pault Posted March 28, 2017 Author ID:1112969 Share Posted March 28, 2017 There you go. Are you sure all those connections are normal(another example is a254)? FRST.txt Addition.txt
Aura Posted March 28, 2017 ID:1112979 Share Posted March 28, 2017 a254 is too generic. I would need the full domain and/or URL. And yes, they are. Also your logs are clean (they indeed show a clean install/reset of Windows).
pault Posted March 28, 2017 Author ID:1112982 Share Posted March 28, 2017 I guess I'm just paranoid then, thanks for double checking either way!

pault Posted March 29, 2017 Author ID:1113283 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I might just be redicously paranoid but the amount of connections that are made when I refresh the page and the load time still seems exorbitant, I made a gif of me refreshing the page twice zoomed in on the small connection bar in the bottom left: http://i.imgur.com/RPDEG6p.gifv
Aura Posted March 29, 2017 ID:1113289 Share Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) What is your main web browser, and what Adblocker are you using? Also, which website were you visiting in the gif above? Edited March 29, 2017 by Aura
pault Posted March 29, 2017 Author ID:1113293 Share Posted March 29, 2017 chrome, currently a trend micro extension and this site: http://www.businessinsider.com/machiavelli-the-prince-2011-5?international=true&r=US&IR=T#either-treat-people-well-or-completely-destroy-them-1 This issue seems to occur on virtually all sites I go on however. Aura Posted March 29, 2017 ID:1113295 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Install uBlock Origin, and let me know if you still get tons of connections. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en
pault Posted March 29, 2017 Author ID:1113299 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Did something, pages now load quicker and there seem to be fewer connections. http://i.imgur.com/k7IpxKO.gifv Loading first: http://www.businessinsider.com/machiavelli-the-prince-2011-5?international=true&r=US&IR=T#either-treat-people-well-or-completely-destroy-them-1 and then https://holykaw.alltop.com/16-lessons-from-machiavellis-the-prince
Aura Posted March 29, 2017 ID:1113300 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Yup. It's because uBlock Origin is a multipurpose content blocker and blocks ads, tracking, etc. So without an extension like this, when you load a webpage, all these connections are normal. You aren't infected.
