Uhh... Malwarebytes? You okay there?

Recommended Posts

Alright guys, so I have a few questions about Malwarebytes. I've used this program for a very long time and I am now starting to question if it is really compatible with Windows 8.1. I sometimes, while running a scan, click the little icon on the taskbar, and then click back and.... Bye bye Malwarebytes! It completely quits just like that. Even when I hit the minimize button, it does the same thing. But it seems the scan continues running? It's so weird.

And after running Malwarebytes today, this is what I got on the system tray:

mbam_fails_by_astroi-d88h15e.png

Okay. REALLY weird. But further looking into this...

The culprit was none other than... Norton Security Suite? What??!

Now this is very strange for Norton to do this. I've run Norton on every PC I've owned, and this is ... really weird.

Also, when I press the "Show Desktop" button, Mbam disappears again.

So is Mbam slowly becoming a ghost or is there something off with the 8.1 compatability?

Hello and welcome, edthemalwarehead:

I am not among them, but plenty of folks run MBAM Premium on Win 8.1.

There are no inherent problems on that platform.

So, let's start here:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
