MBAM stopped working

Recommended Posts

I downloaded the free trial of MBAM several months ago on my laptop because I started seeing signs of malware/virus. My home page changed, pop ups etc. After running MBAM, laptop seemed to work fine. Then a few weeks later started getting a message "MBAM has stopped working". Then the free trial ran out. One week later I purchased a gaming PC,  desktop, for my son's birthday and I also purchased MBAM Premium. When my son's pc arrived, we immediately installed the MBAM, which is performing great. I then done an uninstall of MBAM on my laptop and then installed the MBAM Premium using the CD. After downloading it still got the message "MBAM has stopped working". Then I ran the chameleon, all 13 scans and still had the same problem. Then I downloaded and ran MBAR, the rootkit tool. The scan said "no maleware detected" so I didn't get the clean up option, so I went ahead and ran the "fixthedamage.exe anyway. MBAM still won't run and I'm still getting the message that it has stopped working. Any Suggestions?

Got same problem. Ran MSEssentials FULL scan (Quick scan didn't find anything). It found one threat: Adware: Win32/Invisible browser. Went through motions of removing it....disappeared as if removed, hopefully.....but still MBAM won't work! Submitted to MBAM support, who is buried alive with issues.....so no telling when we'll hear....

Hello @sawtooth and :welcome:

We are disappointed to read your system is having issues. Each computer is unique. Problems that seem "the same" most often are not.

The same is true for solutions. They most often need to be individualized.

It is less confusing for everyone if we adhere to the "one user per topic" sub-forum policy.

Hello go4dawgs and :welcome:

Let's start here:

  • Please try the following and let us know if this corrects your issue: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.x.
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and individually attach the 3 requested logs in a reply to this thread: Diagnostic Logs.
  • The 3 files, from Step 2, to be individually attached from your desktop are: CheckResults.txt, FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Please do not Copy and Paste them into a reply.
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located in Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions.
Please let us know the status of your issue in a reply to this thread.

Thank You. :)

  • Root Admin

MBAM is crashing for some reason and you have an entry for Alternate Data Streams which could potentially be linked to malware.

Not saying the computer is infected but best to check and make sure.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks
