Computer running slow, is it Malware?

I am running a win 7 Toshiba Portege.  I haven't installed anything recently but two days ago my system slowed dramatically.  It was constantly locking up due to cpu overuse. I put it in safe mode and ran ccleaner then Hijack This.  Performance seems to have improved some but is still noticeably slower than previous.  

 

I see quite a few threads addressing malware removal approaches based on the type of malware.  I am unsure what type, if any, I have.  It realize that it could also be a hardware failure of some sort.  

 

Any suggestions?
