Hi,

I can't install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on a fresh install of Windows 7. When I install and then launch the program, I get a dialog that says,

"The Malwarebytes Anti-Malware database is missing or corrupt. Would you like to download a new copy?"

I do so and then get the same error. I click Yes again, then get an error that says,

"Run-time error '400': Form already displayed; can't show modally"

Which I assume is referring to the "Updating Malwarebytes Anti-Malware dialog which is already showing."

Something has gone terribly wrong.

I have tried a lot of the solutions on this forum:

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=122266

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=133113&p=729082

These include the mbam-clean cleanup utility and a fresh re-install, copying a rules file from a working instance on another machine (just gets removed as soon as the update starts), and running mbam-check. The mbam-check reveals that some services don't seem to be running:

Service and Driver Status:
==========================

<--CAN NOT OPEN SC_HANDLE, SERVICE IS NOT RUNNING FOR: MBAMProtector

<--CAN NOT OPEN SC_HANDLE, SERVICE IS NOT RUNNING FOR: MBAMService

<--CAN NOT OPEN SC_HANDLE, SERVICE IS NOT RUNNING FOR: MBAMScheduler

<--CAN NOT OPEN SC_HANDLE, SERVICE IS NOT RUNNING FOR: MBAMChameleon

I have tried to manually start them, but that seems silly and has no effect anyway.

Anyone have an idea of how to get this to work?

Hello and :welcome:

Are you installing using and administrator account or limited user account?

Sorry you are having issues with Malwarebytes.... together with the CheckResults.txt log that you posted it may be helpful to also get some more logs....

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply "as an attachment": DDS.txt and Attach.txt

You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file
