  1. @kvwslh: Yes, Kaspersky is my favorite AV, but I disagree slightly on the free ones :o . I like Avira and Avast, AVG is my last choice for free av's. And how dare you defile the red x :D .

Change the color of his name and he takes over :o He He -

Sorry exile360 but you left yourself open for that one - I hope it is not held against me in the future - ;)

  2. I mean is your virus pertection do good or not.

I get good PROTECTION from Avira and malwarebytes - Also SUPERantiSpyware - (Sorry I can't help myself) -

I also did a scan today with SAS and it found some things that I believe MBAM doesn't scan for -

Smaller stuff like advertising trackers and similar small items -

I also stuck AdAware on now to help find any small trackers that Avira misses -

  3. There are very few that give you this option - If you are refering to a system like Spybot has then it still only shows how much is scanned and gives no actual time remaining - Most removers will not give options like this due to the fact that it is using programs that are upgraded regularly and they do not know exactly how big your system is and what you are running - I usually just set one (MBAM etc) to run while I sit down and eat in the evenings -

That way it is not relevent as to time remaining - SAS and MBAM (occasionally Spybot) take their own time and they are finished when I am - :(

There was a time I would know roughly the number of items it would check , but now I just run it -

  4. By wth way Yo Kenny , I notice you got high CPU readings also when you did a scan yesterday -

Was this towards the end of the scan (extra and heuristics) - :(

May not be right forum area but I noticed your post here -

  5. speaking off, i have avast realtime protection? i always thought avast's real-time protection was better than avira's am i wrong?

no doudt aviras on demand scanner is better than avast's

Even though I also have no DOUBT about Avira (I use it too) I was told NOD 32 was among the better ones ??

Along with MBAM of course - :)

@ bobc11 - You forgot the Heading (Peroteceion) - I needed to write that down to get it -

  6. Many sites are infected and these sites drop a "drive by" infection onto your system -

You do not need to D/load from the sites , just visit them or look at them and the infection is passed on - :)

There are now hundreds if not thousands of sites that contain these type of problems -

It does not mean you have been to porn sites (or similar) - A simple game or information site can contain these infections -

Always keep your 'running' anti virus active and updated - This is your best 'first line' defence -

Even programs like Avira (free) can warn you that a site is bad and will quarantine many infections prior to letting them through - :)

  7. Thank you, thank you, thank you for getting rid of that insipid antispyware 2010 that was driving me crazy!!!!!! :) Will always be your fan and tell everyone I know about you.

It is one of the worst programs once embedded on your system - But MBAM now removes it fully -

For all other questions you will find an answer somewhere in this forum - Brilliant service and top helpers -

You and friends are always welcome - :)

  8. There seems to be a lot of Java as well as Adobe update problems posted lately -

I have always found that to uninstall the older version (even though you can 'overinstall') has been the better option -

The Adobe site in one of it's FAQ sections states to remove older versions if you have problems and then install the latest version -

This seems to be occuring a bit with Sun products lately - Even though I have not visited their FAQ for a while I will check if this is their response -

You (and other forums) have had people with the same problem -

Thanks for the uninstall link - :(

Went to Sun/Java and got the same link from them also - They say it is OK to remove the old version and install from there -

Just did a JRE version update and all is well -

  9. From my own experience with XP and a 15 gig system partition, I would think the windows folder would need some drastic cleanup. If MS expects to see Windows 7 on these netbooks I hope they do a better job of maintaining OS size after updates than they did with XP.

I'm sorry to add my opinion over these but this notebook was just not designed to carry the traffic that is loaded on it -

Many of the smaller notebooks around are only for "instant' type use at school or for work notes to be transferred to a larger unit later -

It is like playing WoW on a cell phone at times - They simply can't cope - You purchase a unit to suit a situation -

My last unit is half full with it's basic operating (ex 98 - now XP) and a few games for the kids to play on - :(

Once I worked out it's capacity I was not able to directly D/load large games and I only put 'smaller' basic kids games on it -

All extras are removed from control panel - Add/Remove (I found plenty of stuff I did not even realise was there) and got 1 - 2 Gig extra -

It just seems that there 'will' be programs that 'can' be removed from this unit -

  10. HostsMan is a seperate program (see the link in my signature below  ), but I was asking if you had a HOSTS file already that blocked ads and the like, such as MVPSHOSTS or HPHosts. Also, do you use any ad-blocking plugins for your browser?

    D/loaded Hostsman and updated

1 Not that I know of (blockers) :)

2 It worked first time this time ?? :)

    3 Thanks Exile 360 (I think) it is 100% better :)

4 Will try again after restart

  11. Any luck?

If not, are you using a HOSTS file to block advertisements and/or malicious websites (I'm not referring to the IP Protection in MBAM)? If so, it's possible that the delay is caused by the blocking of Google Ads from being loaded, which can be overcome by using a tool like HostsMan that uses a local Host Server to redirect blocked lookups.

No known blocks by me -

Still the same - tried 3 subjects and got nothing after hitting it 3 times -

Is "HostsMan" the program to D/load ?? Or is this in my settings ??

  12. What browser (besides Safari) are you using? Do you have any toolbars installed, particularly any related to search engines (ie Yahoo!, MSN/Live/Bing, Ask, Google etc)?

Top right hand is a Yahoo search box (always been there) - Not used -

Normally just I.E. 8 but today added F/fox from Lunarsoft with tool box (not used) -

No other toolbars - Just standard I.E. bar -

Most email sent via Yahoo - (Always have) -

  13. Lately when I search on Google I am having trouble entering the search - (Google default search and home page)

    XP SP 3

I type the subject or site and the Google seems not to register the search -

I need to hit search, or enter (or feeling lucky) about 5 times and the Google tab just appears to do "circles" - :):)

    Then I get through -

Seems like it is looking but if I leave it nothing occurs until I hit (click) it about 4 or 5 times - :)

Me Or Google !! Only a recent event - Favorites works / Tools works / Only Google search -

Tried Safari usually 2 hits but slow -

  14. I have ieSpell installed so in Tools pop down do you see ieSpell Options and ieSpell selections?

If not then you have to download it then close IE then install it then it will be available for use next time you use IE.

It finally installed (3rd time) - Thanks for 'pushing' me in the right direction - :)

Not in 'tools' drop down, but on the top R.H.Side of this reply panel - >>>>
