  1. Hi:

Is this the same computer for which you recently undertook a reformat/OS reinstall?

It sounds as if something may have been messed up during the in-place upgrade.  So, let's start here:

    • Please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  2. Hello, @topmoxie:

There is a problem with malicious web protection it will not stay enabled, please help

It looks as if you have also replied to another user's post about the same problem here:https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/159387-malwarebytes-wont-run-please-help/?findpost=896738 ?

    Each computer is unique.
Problems that sound "the same" most often are not.
As such, the solution most often needs to be individualized.
And helping multiple users in one thread can create confusion

So, I would suggest that you first please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.
If that does not resolve your issues, please start a NEW, SEPARATE forum topic using this clickable cjfj.png button.
The staff and experts will be able to more easily provide both you and the OP with individual help to get you both up and running.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

  3. Hi:

    quarantine list
I have the AVG Free  2.0.3.1025

    MBAM Free?

    AFAIK, no, not currently.
AFAIK, there are plans to improve logging and sorting with a future build.

If you have that many items in Quarantine, perhaps you might want to get some free, expert help checking your system for malware remnants and damage?
If so, you might want to please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will guide you through the scanning and cleanup process.

    Thanks,

  4. Hi:

    Nope, no offense. :)
Just explaining things from the perspective of a longtime home user who's been hanging around here for quite a while.
I can't speak for the staff or company, of course.

So perhaps they will weigh in, as well.

We forum volunteers work here with the staff to solve problems for users -- "compatibility" issues between MBAM and AVs just aren't common these days.

And, yes, if you ever have a problem with MBAM on your computers, please feel free to post back here in a new topic. :)

    Cheers,

    ALSO, for additional information:

  5. Hello and :welcome: :

Pardon a newbie for barging in, but if you ask the same question at AVG Support Community you will get a different answer where Premium is concerned. They will tell you that you should never install two or more programs with real-time resident protection.

Based largely on marketing and sometimes outdated information from older versions of both MBAM and the AVs, it's not uncommon for AV vendors to assert such claims.

However, they are seldom based on actual testing or evidence.  They merely want users to buy *their* products. ;)

MBAM is specifically designed and tested to work alongside all of the major AVs, to provide complementary, layered protection against the threats often missed by AVs.

So, the claims are largely "bunk".

Moreover, minor performance issues are often resolved by setting mutual exclusions, as described above.

Millions of users -- myself included -- run MBAM Premium alongside a range of robust real-time AVs without any issues.

Having said that, a temporary uninstall of MBAM for users experiencing problems with a specific AV in order to troubleshoot is not unreasonable.

More often than not, the issue was neither caused by MBAM nor resolved by its removal.

Admittedly I have no personal experience with Premium. I've been running AVG Free and Malwarebytes Free together for several months with no problems whatsoever.

As you know, MBAM Free is just an on-demand, manual scanner. (As such, one would not expect any problems between MBAM Free and any AV application.) The Free version can only remove infections that have already made it past your AV and onto the computer.

MBAM Premium provides a layer of real-time protection to prevent such infections in the first place.

I'm sure the staff will have some additional feedback. :)

Thanks very much for your input. :)

    Cheers,

  6. Hi:

It's impossible to  say for sure what's going on without more information (e.g. scan logs and protection logs, as well as some MBAM diagnostics).

However, as you mentioned that you might be infected (based on the large number of detections with the recent scan), the first priority will be to get cleaned up.

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please carefully follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will guide you through the scanning and cleanup process.

If there are other, non-malware issues with configuring or running MBAM after that, your helper may send you back here for additional help.

    Thanks,

  7. Hello and welcome back:

The sort of work needed to determine what's going on and the possible solution cannot be done in this area of the forum.

So, I suggest that you might want to please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

    Thanks,

  8. Hi,

Yes, there is a Trial version of MBAM.

However, it appears that Maniac has already replied to your other topic and awaits your response here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/159606-mbam-scan-freezes-my-laptop-every-full-threat-scan/?findpost=896589

To minimize confusion, please stay with him there until he gives you the "all clear".

He can assist you with (re)installing MBAM.

If other, non-malware issues with MBAM remain after the cleanup, he may refer you back here for further help configuring and running the program, as needed.

As for Diagnostic Logs, they would be created by you by running the requested scanning tools on your system, as explained earlier.

However, there is no need for that here in this topic at this time, as you are being helped in another area of the forum.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

  9. Hi:

It appears that you have an identical post in the malware removal section here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/159606-mbam-scan-freezes-my-laptop-every-full-threat-scan/

If you think you might be infected, then please wait for an expert helper to reply in that other topic and please stay with the helper there until you are given the "all-clear". :)

Please do not create additional posts in different areas of the forum for the same issue.

Doing so creates confusion and consumes precious forum resources.

    Thanks for your understanding,

  10. Hi, and welcome, RBF:

The "stopped working" message sounds like a program crash.

That sounds like a separate issue.

But let's start with your license question first.
Yes, once a lifetime license, always a lifetime license.
Each lifetime, consumer license is valid for use on only 1 PC at a time.

It ought not to matter whether you purchased the license from Malwarebytes, Newegg or another vendor.

The basic principle is to follow the steps to "Activate" the software after you download and install/re-install it.
This is explained here: How do I activate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

Now, getting to the "crash" error.

Here is the first set of steps for the reinstall: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.

Please follow the steps carefully and be sure to reboot the system when prompted.

You should not need to enter a NEW license ID/key.

If the computer on which you are reinstalling already had/has licensed MBAM PRO/Premium, you would just activate it with the same license ID/key, if needed.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  11. Hello and :welcome: :

I'm not sure what you mean by a "Full Threat Scan"?
The scan types are: "Hyper", "Threat" and "Custom". :)

(Threat scan is all that's needed or recommended under most conditions.)
Are you referring to a complete, custom scan of your entire system (all drives, folders, and files)?

You might wish to set mutual exclusions between MBAM and Avast (instructions are below).

If that doesn't resolve your issue:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

    Thanks,
    ---------------

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

    • For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe
Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:
      data-cdn.mbamupdates.com
  12. Hi:

Until the staff has a chance to review your logs, here are a couple of other considerations.

Your logs show that you are running 2 active antivirus applications on your system (in addition to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware), Avast and Windows Defender.

Running more than 1 AV can cause conflicts, crashes, slowdowns and other problems, and it can actually reduce your security, not improve it.

Assuming that you wish to run Avast, it would be a good idea to fully disable Windows Defender from the Windows Control Panel.

Also routine scanning of the entire system and other drives (aside from the OS boot drive on which MBAM is installed) is neither necessary nor recommended.

That is a task better suited to your AV.

Under most conditions, a Threat scan should be all that is needed.

Having said that, please wait for the staff to check your logs.

If MBAM is still crashing during a custom scan after you disable one of the 2 AVs, then they may wish to ask you to collect some crash dumps for the QA team to review, or to run some other diagnostics.

    Thanks,

  13. Hello and :welcome: , anjs705:

Thanks for reporting your successful resolution. :)
Alas, this topic is nearly 7 months old.
So, it's likely that the Topic Starter has likely also resolved the issue by now and may no longer be monitoring this thread.

For others who may find this topic, the steps posted by anjs705 are quite similar to those posted in our forum pinned topics:

  14. Hello and welcome back:

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.

A malware analyst will guide you through the cleanup process.

  15. Hello:

There's no way to tell exactly what's going on without more information (especially scan logs).

It could be a False Positive (FP) detection by Norton on an MBAM file -- similar FP detections on MBAM files by Norton have been reported several times before.
    For example: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/151400-norton-antivirus-detected-trojankillav-in-mwb-directory/

If you think this could be a FP by Norton, you would need to report it to them.

OTOH, if you think you might be infected, or if you would like an expert second-opinion to check, then I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into the issue.

    Thanks,

  16. Thanks for the logs.

While we wait for a staff member to review them....

...are you able to run a Threat scan now?

    • First, open the dashboard and select Update Now.
    • Once updated, click the Settings tab, in the left panel choose Detection & Protection, and tick Scan for rootkits.
    • Click the Scan tab, choose Threat Scan and click Scan Now.
    • If threats are detected, click the Apply Actions button. You will now be prompted to reboot. Click Yes.
    • Upon completion of the scan (or after the reboot), click the History tab.
    • Click Application Logs and double-click the Scan Log for the scan that was just run.
    • At the bottom, click Export and choose Text file.

Save the file to your desktop and include its content in your next reply.

    Thanks,

  17. Hi:

I'm glad that MBAM is back up and running now.

No, MBAM is not an antivirus (AV).

This is explained here: Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

MBAM is designed to provide complementary, layered protection alongside a robust AV (either free or paid), to protect against zero-hour and zero-day threats missed by standard AVs.

There are many fine options for AV protection, both free and paid.

This sticky topic lists a few of them: List of well known antivirus products

And here are a few external links with additional discussion:

    http://www.sevenforu...anti-virus.html

    http://www.bleepingc...lware-software/

    Thanks again,

  18. Hi:

    Thanks for the log.

Preliminary review shows at least 2 things:

    1) Your system needs to be rebooted to complete the MBAM installation.

    2) You are running Win7, 64-bit.  When you downloaded FRST, did you try to run the 32-bit version, by any chance?  You need the 64-bit version for your system.

So, you might want to try again to reboot the computer and then to try again the Diagnostic Logs, including the 64-bit version of FRST.

Then, please post back here again with all 3 logs, if you can.

    We will go from there.

    Thanks,

  19. Hi:

If you've already tried a CLEAN reinstall (as explained here), then let's get some preliminary logs, for starters.

To do that, please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

We may need additional data (e.g. crash dumps), but the diagnostic logs will be a good starting point.

    Thanks,

  20. Hello and :welcome: :

    Please start here:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

    Thanks,

  21. Hello and :welcome: :

A couple of easy things to check:

    >>First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.

    >>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE (just the one reply, not the entire thread). Please post back if you need help with that.

    >>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

    Thanks,
