  1. Hi:

Most likely some sort of software conflict or a problem on your system.
Impossible to say without more information.

Please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

NOTE: If you have previously run FRST on this same computer, please place a check mark in the "Addition.txt" option before running FRST.

    Thanks,

  2.

Sold by Amazon Digital Services, Inc. Additional taxes may apply. By placing your order, you agree to our Terms of Use. Game and software downloads are non-returnable and non-refundable after purchase.

Note: Currently, this item is available only to customers located in the United States and who have a U.S. billing address.

Only the Malwarebytes marketing team staff can say for sure, but it appears to be legit.

Amazon is one of a few reputable resellers/vendors that may still have a limited number of 1-PC, consumer, lifetime licenses.

Note: the offer does not include physical media (which you don't need anyway).

Be sure to keep electronic and paper copies of all the receipts and transaction info, just for safe-keeping.

(If you ever need to reinstall or transfer the license to a different system, you'll need the license ID and key to do so.)

Then, just follow the steps in these helpful topics with videos here:

How do I install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

How do I activate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

    Thanks,

  3. Hi:

    Welcome.

Some registry keys are associated with PUPs and malware.
Before restoring these items, it might be a good idea to have the staff and experts review your scan log, to make sure that you are not restoring malicious or damaging items?

As such, we would be better able to accurately help you if you would please do the following:

    • Follow the steps below to post the relevant SCAN LOG as an attachment to your next reply in this thread,
    • AND follow the steps in this pinned topic to produce 3 logs and post all of them as attachments to your next reply here, too: Diagnostic Logs (there will be 3 diagnostic logs: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and Checkresults.txt)

    Thanks,
    ----------------------

    How to get scan logs:
(Export log to save as a txt file for posting in the forum when requested)

    • Open MBAM.
    • Click on the HISTORY tab > APPLICATION LOGS.
    • Double-click on the SCAN LOG which shows the date and time of the scan just performed (or the one you are asked to post).
    • Click EXPORT.
    • Click TEXT FILE (*.txt)
    • In the "Save File" dialog box which appears, click on DESKTOP.
    • In the FILE NAME box, type a name for your scan log.
    • A message box named "File Saved" should appear, stating that "Your file has been successfully exported".
    • Click OK.
    • Attach the saved log to your next reply.
  4. Hi:

In addition to fivelive's advice, it's not "required" to set mutual exclusions.
In many/most cases, it's not necessary.
Many users do prefer to proactively set the mutual exclusions.

If you would like to do so:
The screen shot below shows how to add the AV folder to MBAM exclusions.
The text below lists the MBAM files to exclude in your AV.

    Thanks,
    ----------------

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall,

you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of

web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

    data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

  5. Hello and :welcome: :

There may be malware remnants or malware damage on the system.

We can't work on malware diagnostics and removal in this sub-section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

    Thanks,

  6. Hello and :welcome: :

A couple of easy things to check:
    >>First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.
    >>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating MBAM as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE (just the one reply, not the entire thread). Please post back if you need help with that.
    >>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  7. and now it won't run properly.

That (the shield on the shortcut icon) is perfectly normal (see screen shot) -- it's a feature of Windows User Account Control (UAC) for Vista and higher.

I don' know if I am explaining this righ but Vista isn't my default browser and it seems to have hijacked Firefox,

Not sure what you mean by that, as "Vista" is a version of the Windows Operating System, not a "browser". Perhaps you are talking about Internet Explorer?

There was also a scary note my license.

    Which license?

For MBAM Premium, or for another program, or for Windows itself?

Perhaps you could tell us the exact wording or post a screen shot of the error?

I like Malware byres alot and don't want to lose it,.  I think I'm going to have to take my computer into the shop.  Sigh.  Suggestions are welcome.  Thanks for any suggestions!!!!!!

    Kay

Let's start with the following, to get a basic idea about your system:

Please carefully read the following and then post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

  8. Hi:

This was an issue on some systems a while back, especially after an on-top version upgrade.
But I haven't seen any recent reports.

Let's start with the suggestions here: MBAM Always Starts with Windows

I know you said you've already tried a clean reinstall.
But, in order to get to a known, good starting point for additional trouble-shooting, if the steps above don't work, please proceed with the following:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  9. Assuming that the computer on which you are trying to install MBAM is NOT infected.....

Please take your time with the steps, either in the pinned topic or in the KB articles (which include video demos) in my earlier reply.

Either way, you need to SAVE the installer to your desktop and then run it ("Right-click" and then "Run as Administrator" for Vista/7/8) -- you can't run it from temp files in your browser.

If you still have a problem, please post back and we will help you.

    Thanks,

  10. Hi:

I assume you purchased a consumer, subscription, 3-PC license?

The CD version is probably an outdated version of the program (not just the databases).

So that's not the best way to proceed.
You may wish to start at the appropriate step in the method explained here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.

(You would skip the part about uninstalling MBAM, as the program is not yet installed on the 2nd computer.)

Essentially you will install MBAM from a downloaded version of the installer and then activate it with the license ID and key that were provided in the box with the software CD (either on a card or on the CD sleeve).

Alternatively there are helpful topics with videos here:
How do I install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?
How do I activate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?
How do I obtain my license key or confirmation email?

    ALSO, for additional information:
There is an FAQ Section here: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
And here are links to the MBAM 2.0 User Guide: Online and PDF
And there are many useful KB topics and videos at the helpdesk support page

Please let us know if you need more help.

    Thanks,

  11. Yep, Firefox is correct, as always. :)

If it were *my* computer, I wouldn't install anything that comes with special, little "extras", such as OpenCandy or any other PUP.

Alas, such junk is pretty common, especially associated with "Freeware".

The software vendors have to monetize their products somehow....

The safer strategy might be to choose a different photo-editing program, perhaps Gimp?

Also, FWIW, you have quite a few PUPs in quarantine.

It might not be a bad idea to head over to the malware removal section to get a free, expert second opinion.

Some PUPs can be rather difficult to fully remove, requiring the use of additional tools, not just MBAM.

As you have already run FRST, you'd just need to start a new, separate topic in the Malware Removal section, attaching the same logs to your new post.

One of the experts can assist with checking the system for malware/adware/junkware remnants and other problems.

It's certainly up to you, though. :)

    Thanks again,

  12. Hello and welcome:

    What's going on here?

It's a bit hard to say for sure without a bit more data.

If you can, please do the following:

    •  Please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt), AND
    • Please attach the relevant MBAM scan logs to your next reply, as well (instructions are below):

  15. If you have replaced your hard drive, then you just need to download the installer, run it and then activate it with your existing license ID and key.
You may wish to start at the appropriate step in the method explained here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x.
(You would skip the part about uninstalling MBAM, especially if you already uninstalled MBAM from the old hard drive.)

If this is a 1-PC lifetime consumer license, the important thing is to be sure MBAM Premium is installed and *activated* on only 1 PC at a time.

  18. Hi, @lanl:

There are a few different possible explanations for this error.

If a system reboot doesn't solve it, please do the following:

    •  Please read the following pinned topic to collect the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • Then, please start a NEW, SEPARATE topic using this clickable cjfj.png button. Please attach the 3 logs to your new post.
