Hi:
No two systems are the same, but AFAIK, it ought to be fine.

Hello and welcome back:
There are many possible reasons for updating failures - system settings, malware, software conflict, networking/connectivity issues, incorrect MBAM settings/installation, etc..
It's impossible to say without more information.
A couple of easy things to check:>>Was MBAM installed and configured from a Windows Admin-level account, and is the user running in an Admin account?
>>Also, please be sure your system date/time are correct.>>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.
>>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating MBAM as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE (just the one reply, not the entire thread). Please post back if you need help with that.If those suggestions don't work:
I realize the user has already reinstalled the program, but A) we don't know if the user followed the "best practices" in the tutorial, and B) it's helpful to start troubleshooting with a known, "clean" starting point. So I suggest the following:- Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
- If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
- NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
Please let us know how it goes.
>>>It would be preferable for the computer's owner to create a forum account and to post here directly. Helping someone indirectly, from a distance, without physical control of the computer, can be confusing and complicated.
Thanks, -
You are most welcome.
Cheers,

Hi:
Welcome.
Well, first of all, it looks as if you are running an outdated version of MBAM (1.75 or older).
First thing to do: cleanly upgrade to version 2.0.
Instructions are here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2xVersion 2 provides a bit more user control over exclusions, as well as many other enhancements, including more powerful scanning.
As for the detections, those are PUPs
You can read more about them here: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats, and should they be deleted?Once you get your MBAM upgraded, you may choose to "Ignore" the PUPs, if you wish, even though it's not recommended.
There are instructions about setting malware exclusions here:
There is an FAQ Section here: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
And here are links to the MBAM 2.0 User Guide: Online and PDF
And there are many useful KB topics and videos at the helpdesk support pageThank you,

Hi, all:
My turn.
First time in FOREVER having anything turn up on daily, scheduled Threat Scan -- 2 PUPs. :o
My first thought was some sort "freebie" with CCleaner 5.01, which I installed with the ****slim**** installer a few hours ago.
But, it turns out that the files have been on the computer for almost 2 years.
TBH, I don't recall what they are, so I have not yet Quarantined them -- it's just a folder with a single log file.
VT: 0/56
SHA256: f851fe266920e00ab3f51e5ab2791884d5e16363b4c1939913136ebe3fd27770 File name: adxregistrator.log
- New, appropriate detection on "old" files?
- False Positive?
- Should I Quarantine?
- Or OK to Ignore?
(I have obfuscated my userame, but otherwise made no other changes to the scan log or screen shots.)
THANKS!!!

Hello and :
A similar problem was reported a few months ago: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/147910-mbam-20-and-tablet/
As I am not familiar with that particular hardware, we'll likely need to wait for AdvancedSetup or another staff member to reply.
Thank you for your patience,
-
Yes, it looks as if you already have a helper and he awaits your reply: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/162803-ocrf70btmp-romania/?findpost=923477
Please stay with Kevin until he gives you the "all clear".

Hello:
Welcome back.
There is no one security product or selection of products that suits all users, all computers and all budgets.
100 users will offer 101 passionate opinions on the subject.
MBAM Premium is designed to work alongside all of the major, popular AVs, to provide layered, complementary protection.
Here is a pinned topic: List of well known antivirus products
It contains links to other, external resources at "general" computer sites with vigorous discussion of the subject.
Here are two more:
Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Software

Thanks, Maurice.
I was just checking to see if perhaps it might be installed, but not showing up on the desktop (just to avoid reinstalling on top of an existing install)?
Also, as the OP is not sure how MBAM may have gone missing, I thought it might be reasonable to check for evidence of infection or other anomalies?
That's why I asked for logs first.
But, in any event, I'll defer to your expert advice.
Cheers!

Hello:
Welcome.
First and foremost: I have alerted the moderator team to remove your email address from your post. Otherwise, you are likely to see 1000000 new "friends" showing up in your email inbox.DONE!
I'm not sure what you mean by "missing"?
Before we get into a possible re-installation, let's just get a peek at the system, to see if it might still be installed. Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
Thanks,
P.S. The mod team may also move this post to the MBAM Help section. No worries, though.

Thanks for the reply daledoc,
I've tried the first suggestion for resolving the update issue with MBAM Clean Removal Process, it finally updated,
Excellent!
however, now it doesn't accept my license ID and Key.
In nearly all cases, this is due to inadvertent alphanumeric character substitutions when manually entering the license ID and Key (e.g. "1" and "I", "0" and "O", "5" and "S", etc.)
If you are copying and pasting directly from the confirmation email, be sure not to add any extra spaces before or after the character strings.
The ID should be XXXXX-XXXXX
The Key should be XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
See here: It says 'Invalid license information' when I try to activate the software.
See here: How do I activate Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?
If that fails, see here: How do I obtain my license key or confirmation email?
Please let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
-
Hello and :
It might be a good idea to have the system checked for malware.

It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.>>Until then, I suggest NOT self-medicating -- running powerful anti-malware tools without expert help can make recovery difficult and can seriously damage the system.

Hi:
I'm not sure about IE, as I don't use it. But, it will reset the various settings to the "default", so you might lose bookmarks/favorites. So, you might want to back those up.... Check this for details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
For Firefox, a reset *should* save your bookmarks in a backup: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
But it would be a good idea to manually back them up first, as well, just in case.
No idea about Chrome, sorry.
Check the links in my previous reply, as they will likely explain what is and is not saved. It's a bit different from other browsers because of the "sync" feature.
Thank you,
-
Hi:
I'm sorry you are having such trouble.
These tools are downloaded and run 100s of times a day here and at other computer support fora.(You might have to temporarily disable your AV to run FRST.)
If you are unable to run any of them, then it suggests that you could be infected, or that you could have other serious system problems.
Diagnosing and fixing the problem will require a deeper look at the system and other tools which are not permitted in this section of the forum.Such work is conducted in a dedicated area of the forum or at the help desk.
It's entirely up to you.But if you would like further assistance, then I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue. The helpers in the malware removal section and the help desk will have other diagnostic tools/scanners to try to determine what's going on.
Thanks again,
-
Hello:
Welcome.
No one security application can detect 100% of all malware 100% of the time, as new variants appear all the time.
If you have a malware sample to submit for possible inclusion in the database, then I suggest the following:- Please read the submission instructions here: Purpose of this forum and Malware hunters please read
- Then, please submit the requested information in a new post here: Newest Malware Threats
OTOH, if you think you might be infected, then I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will guide you through the cleanup process.
Thanks, -
Thanks for the clarification.
Please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
