  1. Great!

I'm glad you got it sorted out.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Your logs do show quite a few issues (processes and drivers running from your temp folder, services and applications crashing, etc).

It may not be due to malware.

But diagnostics and cleanup work for this cannot be performed here, in this section of the forum.

So, it's up to you, but please feel free to look into some free, expert help, as mentioned in my previous replies.

Thank you again and take care,

  2. Hello:

That detection is a PUP -- more information may be found here: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats, and should they be deleted?

I wouldn't want any of those on my computers.
But, if you're not sure what to keep/ignore and what to remove/quarantine, then you might want to have a malware expert assist you.

We are not permitted to work on possible malware-related issues here in this section of the forum.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

    Thanks,

  3. Hello and :welcome: :

If I understand your post correctly, it appears that you might have posted in the wrong forum section?

I think you are referring to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), not Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit (MBAE)?

Please read the instructions here: Important: Please Read Before Reporting A False Positive
Then, please post the requested information (URL and IP address) in a NEW, SEPARATE topic here: Website Blocking

If that is not correct, please let us know, and we will help you.

    Thank you,

  4. Great!

    Thanks for letting us know.

Please keep an eye out for a recurrence.

If my home-user suspicions are correct, you should be "good to go", as I've not seen anyone else who previously reported the issue having the same problem again after upgrading to 2.0.4.1028.

If you do see it again, please follow the advice for the diagnostic logs in my earlier reply and attach them to any new reply here.

    Cheers!

  5. Hi:

Well, he likely wasn't teaching geography or science?

As for the time difference, we would welcome the computer owner's membership here at the forum, so that we could assist him directly.

    (Someone is around nearly 24/7.)

However, it's certainly admirable of you to try to assist from afar. :)

Either way, just let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,

  6. Novice computer users are the ones who shouldn't be presented with playful and silly attributes in their security programs. They need to be made clear (without inducing paranoia) how hazardous the net can be even with MBAM combined with an AV.

Internal and/or external links in the GUI should point to thorough explanations of the program's workings and to documentation which explain the virtues and strategies of safe hex.

Encourage and teach users how to be active participants in their own net well-being. Playful and silly attributes subtly imply a 'don't worry be happy, we've got you covered' assurance from the program. That breeds complacency and dependency.

    EXTREMELY well-said.

A green check-mark is the norm in the software industry and in graphic design, at least for adult communication.

If a user does not comprehend that basic symbol, then not even MBAM can protect the user from him/herself in today's computing environment.

But Shrugged expresses the more fundamental, underlying problem with the "emoticon" approach.

  7. Hi:

I have experienced this once on all my computers on the same day, and a few others have reported it, too (as recently as yesterday). :o

I am only a home user and do not work for MBAM.
So, I do not know the cause (though the behavior suggests a "hiccup" at the update server end, rather than on the user's computer(s)).
It is very intermittent, so it may be hard to track down.
It is typically easily resolved by exiting MBAM from the system tray icon, and then reopening the program from the desktop shortcut icon.
Doing so will "refresh" the GUI and show the correct and current database.

Having said that, you are running an older version of the program.
So, in your case, it *might* have something to do with the program checking not only for a DATABASE update, but also for a PROGRAM update.

As such, I suggest the following:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  8. Hi: :)

The default settings are sufficient and safe for most, basic users.

AFAIK, this is the current product documentation for MBAM:

There is an FAQ Section here: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
And here are links to the MBAM 2.0 User Guide: Online and PDF
And there are many useful KB topics and videos at the helpdesk support page

We'll need to wait for staff to tell us if updates to any of these are in the works, with the expected release of version 2.1 sometime in the next few months.

Until then, it would probably be easier for us to answer specific questions about specific settings and features, as it's hard to generalize?

    Thanks,

  9. Hello and :welcome: :

The most likely explanation is that there is a very large list of items detected (probably PUPs or malware), or there could be system damage from the malware.

It sounds as if some expert assistance will be needed to get the machined cleaned and MBAM back up and running properly.

    Thanks,

  10. Hi:

    Welcome. :)

I'm a bit confused (that happens a lot when one reaches my age). :o

If you are asking about MBAM-Mobile for Android, I run it on both my 4.4.2 and my 4.4.4 smartphones.

AFAIK, it is available from Google Play and from the Amazon app store, according to the product main page >>Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile<<

If you are experiencing a compatibility or other technical problem installing or running it on your specific Android device, you might want to open a support ticket by following the requested steps >>here<<.

That's probably the best way to get prompt attention for your issue, as this particular section of the forum is reserved for support of the Windows-based products for PCs, not Android devices.

(There was a known issue with Wifi-only, non-sim card devices a few months ago, but I don't know if that has been resolved.)

    I hope this helps,

  11. Hello and :welcome: :

  12. Hello and :welcome: :

This has been reported a few times (and I experienced it myself on my systems several weeks ago).

I, too, found that exiting MBAM from the system tray and then reopening it from the desktop shortcut fixed the problem -- it's as if the GUI didn't properly "refresh" after the update.

But I'm not sure of the cause (I am just a home user, too), and has been a rare occurrence.

So, it may be hard to pin down.

As a matter of routine, I would suggest the following:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

  13. Hi:

    Thanks for the follow-up.

I certainly understand your lack of enthusiasm about trying to reproduce such an abnormal computer behavior.

    Re: the diagnostic logs.

If you have uninstalled MBAM, then you could still run the Log Set 1 (FRST) tool and post back with its 2 logs. It is a non-invasive scanner. Perhaps the logs will show something.

It would be better to have all 3 logs from both tools, but I understand the reluctance to reinstall MBAM to obtain that 3rd log.

Alas, I am just a home user and forum volunteer. However, I don't recall any recent reports of the behavior you report. It could be a driver or software conflict, OS corruption, hardware problem, malware, etc. There's no way to know.

Without even basic diagnostic logs, I don't know that there's much we can do here at the forum. :(

I suggest that you might want to log a ticket directly with the help desk >>HERE<<.

They, too, will require some sort of diagnostic testing/scanning.

However, the support team will have more direct access to the developers and may be able to provide some sort of resolution.

If you do, you might want to include this link, so that they will know about your post here in the forum:

    https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/162765-windows-7-reboot-problem/

    Thank you again,

  14. Hi:

Alas, I'm sorry but we wouldn't be able to sort out a problem with the Emsisoft forum.

Perhaps you might try again or try a different browser or contact their support site directly?

I think we have probably provided enough information to get you started.

If you upgrade to MBAM Premium and then change your mind for any reason, you have 30 days for a refund.

    Thanks again,

  15. Hello and :welcome: :

EDIT: OOPS! Dave was faster and more succinct. :D  Yes, the Trial does normally revert to Free after 14 days.  More detail below:

AFAIK, With the current version of the MBAM installer and the current version of the mbam-clean removal tool, a user ought NOT to be offered the Trial version upon reinstallation if it was previously used on that same box.
IOW, as you correctly surmised, the Trial version should be a one-time deal.
The fact that she did not see the offer for the Trial this time around means that it's likely working properly.
It's only a 14-day Trial, BTW, but -- unless something is amiss or awry -- she ought not to be prompted again about an expiring Trial. She probably has the Free version now.

There are a couple of ways to verify this.

First, open the main GUI and look at the ribbon at the very top: It will say either "Free" or "Trial" or "Premium".
Second, you can run this mbam-check utility -- the log it produces will confirm the version type and whether the trial has been used on this box. Instructions here. You can ATTACH the log to your next reply here, if you need help reading it.

If her system says "Free", and that's all she wants, she should be fine.
If it says "Trial", and she wants to revert to the Free version, there are 4 options, any of which will work:

    • Allow the trial to expire in 14 days;
    • Click the "End Trial" popup notification;
    • Click the "End Free Trial" link in the GUI;
    • Perform a clean reinstall, using the method described here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x - be sure to "opt out" (remove the check mark from) the Free trial, if it is offered again during the installation wizard.

EDIT: And, as Dave correctly explained, of course, if she wants the paid, Premium version after the Trial expires, she will need to purchase a license.

For future reference, detailed tutorials for cleanly uninstalling and reinstalling are in the link ^^above^^ in step #4: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks!

  16. Excellent idea. :)

I suggest that you might wish to take some time to read existing posts here in the forum, and the MBAM product documentation/resources, as most of this has been covered quite often and much better than I can do it.

    ALSO:

There is an FAQ Section here: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
And here are links to the MBAM 2.0 User Guide: Online and PDF
And there are many useful KB topics and videos at the helpdesk support page

You might also want to consult with the folks at Emsisoft, for their perspective.

    Take care,

  17. Well, then all of this discussion is pretty much moot for now. :)

MBAM Free is ONLY a manual, on-demand scanner that can remove infections that have already made it past your AV onto your computer.

Since it is not a real-time scanner, there is scant chance it will "conflict" with EAM.

Only MBAM Paid, Premium version runs in real-time to help PREVENT infections from getting onto the system.

All of the previous discussion applies largely to the Paid version.

    Thank you,

  18. Thanks for the picture! Do i have to add Emsisoft components to the Malwarebytes exclusion as well?

Once again, in most cases one doesn't "have to" set mutual exclusions between the AV and the AM.

Some users like to do so proactively, to reduce the risk of subtle clashes or performance problems.

On some systems, it is advisable.

Once again, there is no way to predict for your particular system.

If both programs are running and your computer is fine, then there's no need to do anything.

If not, then please try the mutual exclusions, as suggested.

If that doesn't resolve the issue(s), then please post back and we will go from there.

BTW, are you running the paid, Premium version of MBAM, or just the Free version?

    Thanks,

  19. Hi:

    Whoa!

I am having a hard time trying to keep up here. ;)

First, please read the replies above this one, from David and me.

Then, if you wish to set mutual exclusions between EAM and MBAM:

    • The screenshot below shows an example (with a different AV) of how to set the AV exclusion in MBAM.
    • The instructions below list the MBAM files to exclude in your AV.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks again,
    ---------------------------

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

    • For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe
Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:
      data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

  20. Hi:

Can you explain to me why they are not compatible with each other?

    I don't quite understand. :(
I did not say they are not compatible.
I said that it *ought* to be fine.

However, no 2 computers are identical (hardware, OS, software, peripherals, networking, configuration, user computing practices, etc).
So, it's impossible to predict with 110% certainty.
    That is all. :)

In any event, the basic security software strategy is ONE real-time anti-virus (AV), either free or paid, running alongside ONE real-time anti-malware (AM), such as MBAM. (See below for other advice.)

MBAM is not an anti-virus (AV).
It is an anti-malware (AM) application.

Therefore it is recommended and necessary to have an AV (anti-virus) along with MBAM.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware is both an AV and AM.
So, it's *****possible***** that the real-time anti-malware component of EAM ***might*** possibly clash with the real-time anti-malware component of MBAM on any particular system.
    >>>However, we do not get reports of such a conflict here in the forum.

    >>>>So, to reiterate, it ought to be fine.
IF you run into a problem, you can post back here for help.

Most often, such issues are resolved by setting mutual exclusions/permissions between MBAM and the other security application.
