  1. Guys... I just found out how to re-enable web protection and I did so by reinstalling with latest installer two times. From all the threads on the forums it doesn't seem that people are aware that this could be a solution to their woes. I just thought I'd share what made it work for me again. Both scanning and web protection works fine for me again. I have a test folder with some game trainers in it (that MB always detects and wishes to quarantine although they are not infected); these are detected during my scans, and when I try to run them MB also blocks them and wants to quarantine.
  2. Web protection disabled? Try reinstalling several times until it works. Dont uninstall, just reinstall by running the latest version. It may require several reboots of Windows and also running the installer multiple times after each reboot. That's how I finally made web protection enable again.
  3. I seem to have "solved" this by reinstalling two times(rebooting Windows afterwards both times). First time reinstalling I got the "unable to connect to service". I then reinstalled again and MB worked again. Don not uninstall, just install the latest version. If it doesn't work try rebooting and running the installer again.
  4. same, I was sitting in front of my computer staring vacantly into my empty desktop ( I do that sometimes kinda relaxing) when I suddenly noticed the notification from Malwarebytes that real time protections was disabled. I checked the protection settings and saw that Web protection and Malware protection was disabled. So I tried to enable them again, Malware protection successfully enabled, but Web protection just gets stuck on "Starting..." but never actually enables. So I tried exiting MB and starting it again, but no dice.... Tried shutting down Windows and restarting, but still the same happened: Web protection and Malware protection was again disabled, and only Malware protection could be enabled. So what the deuce is going on?
  5. That is good to hear; tedious manual work should be optional
  6. No this does not happen with the auto-quarantine. As I mentioned I have set Malwarebytes to warn me upon finding PUP's but still there is auto-quarantining happening. And in that quarantine list there is no option to select the items for exclusion; you can only chose to Restore the entries or Delete them. Restore just restores them, no option to exclude in the future. The exclusion option that you mention is only something that is available upon a scan. But when a program perceived as a PUP by Malwarebytes executes its files Malwarebytes seemingly detects it, Im guessing as part of the real-time protection process and quarantines it without asking or warning first. Dont believe I posted screenshot of my setting for auto-quarantining, but as you can see here, it should be disabled.
  7. This thread is more than a year old, but I can inform that Malwarebytes is still detecting the Firefox addon BlockSite as a PUP.... And it is unfortunately not easy to exclude BlockSite from detection. In Malwarebytes there are no options for the quarantined entries to be excluded in the future, thus first you must MANUALLY write down the long and complicated folder path so you can go to the exclusions tab and add the folder. Then you can try to go back to the Quarantine section and select the entries for BlockSite and click "restore". However even that is a hassle because Malwarebytes requires a reboot before the entries can be restored.... Its also weird that these entries are auto-quarantied when I have selected that Malwarebytes should only Warn me....
  8. Well I visit malicious sites often etc and it really does protect my computer. Reputable reviewers also rate it highly; it has a good reputation for protection.
  9. yeah I know what you mean. But the protection the program offers are still very good, even if there is annoying and recurring bugs.
  10. It's 3 months ago, so perhaps too late. But the problem is if I buy another 1 pc license, they will be out of sync with eachother by the time the first runs out, the second will still have several months left, so if I buy a 2 year license at that time I will lose 3 months of membership. Besides, buying a 2 pc license compared to a 1 pc license is only like 20% more expensive, so maybe I will be best off by buying a 2 pc license now. I still lose a lot of money because the first license I bought 3 months ago will then be worthless... damned if I do damned if I dont, kinda makes me feel cheated.
  11. Recently I paid for a 1 pc license. Now I have gotten another pc that I would like to use Malwarebytes on. Is it possible to upgrade my 1 pc license to a 2 pc license?
  12. yep this is still a widespread issue. I sure do hope Malwarebytes developers are working their asses off trying to fix this most annoying issue that has been around ever since 3.0 was released. But given the long time the issue has been around one does begin to wonder whether it is given the proper share of available development time....
  13. The issue with Real-time protection layers is turned off is still happening. I am aware of the threads mentioned below and I have tried the suggested fixes for turning on/off delaying real time protection module, early start etc. It doesn't seem to make a difference 50% of the times I login into Windows Real time protection is turned off and cannot be turned on. If I then quit Malwarebytes and tries to start it again I get the "cant connect to service" error dialog window. I then have to restart windows, cross my fingers and hope Malwarebytes works, and sometimes have to restart once more because it does it again....! When will this issue be finally fixed? This never happened before upgrading to Malwarebytes 3. (I am currently using 3.06)
  14. I agree, I regretted upgrading as well. I thought I should always install the newest version, so when it said there was an upgrade I of course chose to install. In the future I will research thoroughly on the experiences of other users before making the same mistake again
  15. That is not a very good design then, when upgrading a current installation that is not installed in C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes. The installer should check which path the current installation is located in and default the install location to that.
  16. Upgrading to 3.0.6 was what started all this mess for me (doing a clean install was what finally made things work again)
  17. thaddeus, did you use the mbam clean utility from the link I posted, or did you use another tool? Because the tool I linked too did not actually removed MBAM. But it did allow me to actually run the uninstalled for MB, such that it could be uninstalled, allowing me to install a new fresh install of MBAM. So if you just ran the utility and then tried to install MBAM again I think that would cause problem. Just to be sure, this was how I removed MBAM and installed it again afterwards: 1. try to uninstall MBAM from "programs and features" in control panel. (uninstaller froze for me here, couldnt uninstall) 2. shutdown computer, boot into windows again. 3. run clean utility 4. shutdown computer and boot into windows again. 5. check if MBAM is still installed, if it is try to uninstall through "programs and features" in control panel (shutdown and boot again if it was uninstalled here). 6. install MBAM
  18. you are absolutely right, this shouldnt be necessary, its hugely annoying. I do hope you will get it to work
  19. I would suggest uninstalling MB, possibly in conjunction with using the MB removal tool mentioned below. After that shutdown computer and boot into windows again, and then install the latest MB again. You will unfortunately lose all settings, exclusion lists etc, but this fixed the issues for me. I suspect that there is some issues with the upgrade process, and as such a full uninstall and a new clean install avoids any issue with the upgrade process (but who knows).
  20. Have you tried a full uninstall, shutdown computer, then boot into windows and install again? This fixed the issues for me, perhaps it will for you too? My only gripe with this solution is that all settings, exclusions etc is lost :/
  21. Well, I would say there is cause for some concern in upgrading. When I chose yes to upgrade the installer tried first to install the new version in another folder than the current MB install folder. I then change that path to that folder. The install seemed to go well, but I had a number of problems after the upgrade (real-time protection layers was always turned off at windows boot, help icons in the UI did not work). A full uninstall using an MB removal tool was necessary, before I could finally install MB again. After that it seems it works ok again, none of the previous errors after the upgrade is present.
  22. hey, just want to let you guys know that after I finally managed to completely uninstalled MB I installed it again, and now the issue does not happen anymore. Maybe this could fix it for others as well?
  23. Yes I am. I had upgraded to it. I had other problems as well so I decided to completely uninstall and remove MB and reinstall. That fixed it (the uninstall process was a mess though, but I finally got around an issue that prevented the uninstall process from working). Too bad I had to lose all my settings I wish the upgrade process to new versions was smooth and not problematic like this
  24. I uninstalled and installed again. That fixed the problem. However the process was a bit weird because when I tried to uninstall the uninstaller froze everytime, so that I couldn't actually uninstall. I then found an MB removal tool from the page below. After I had run that and rebooted windows, MB was still installed however now the uninstall program worked and I could uninstall MB. Then after reinstalling again the error does not happen anymore. Now the only error I seem to still have is that when MB scans it gets stuck a Heuristic Analysis, it doesnt freeze, it just never gets any further so the scan doesn't ever finish.
  25. After searching google for some time I found this thread: Downloaded and ran the tool. After rebooting I could now uninstall MB normally.
